Just look at the rioting in Greece, Spain and the U.K. THAT is what's in store for us when China decides to stop lending us money to support Washington's spending mania. Obama claimed to recognize the danger of our crushing national debt and promised to cut the annual deficit by half.....which is to say that he promised to reduce spending more than we take in each year. He hasn't reduced squat! He hasn't even TRIED to reduce spending, because he has increased spending every year he's been in office! And under his careful guidance our national debt, or credit card balance if you will, has gone from 10 trillion to 16 trillion dollars and is still climbing.

The remarks by RTFS are right on the money - very articulate. We are a nation that seems to want it all - without paying the price - and when it all comes crashing down on us - have someone fix it - now! We seemingly have little patience or will power to stay the course. We have an intelligent, thoughtful leader who has shown time and again his integrity and steadfastness. He is an articulate and heartfelt man who has certainly endured his share of petty criticism - slander - and outright racism. For once in our history I'm hoping we can "stay the course" and not abandon a great leader.

I could not agree with you more. We were in such dire shape when the President took office - losing upwards of 700,000 jobs a month - and within a year we had positive job growth again. And while no one is satisfied with where we are - too many are still struggling - it defies reason to expect that the President (with the active obstruction of a Republican congress) could fix everything in a single term.

I don't agree with the President on every issue, but I trust him to try to do what's right for the greatest number of people, and for the country overall. I can't say the same for Mr. Romney... sadly, I think his contempt for the '47%' was the most genuine thing he's said throughout the campaign.

Amen to that. I was excited about Obama in 2008 and was happy to vote for him. This year, despite being one of the people hit really hard by the downturn, I will vote for him again. I'm not idealistic, but realistic. What you said is true in that you can't expect instant results when the disaster is as deep as it was. It's turning slowly but it IS turning and all of the indicators show a positive trend. It's not that I can't understand people who are hurting feeling like something different will solve all their problems. However, when that something different isn't any different (and is, in fact, worse) than what drove us over the cliff, I wish they could just be a little more patient. Aside from the economic realities of their policies, I just can't understand how ANYONE can be comfortable voting for someone who changes his positions every few days. He may have had core principles at some point but I wonder if he even remembers what they were anymore. He says whatever is most expedient in the moment and whatever will propel him forward. Just be ready to throw the dice and hope for the best because he's been at least 6 different candidates over the coarse of his 6 years running for President. I was one of those millions of unemployed, and then underemployed people, for over a year. I'm a professional recruiter and I've been back at work, and slammed beyond imagination, for almost a year now. I know there are areas that will continue to struggle for a long time and some that will never come back, but as a recruiter who recruits across multiple industries, skill sets and geographies, I can tell you that companies ARE hiring and the employment picture IS better. The bigger issue now is one that Obama has touched on in that many of the jobs in highest demand are those where there are too few people trained to take them.

I think he's accomplished a lot considering that bill in the senate has to have a 60 percent majority to pass. Republicans filibuster everything. They decided as soon as he was elected that they'd do everything they could to make him a one-term president. They've blocked legislation they previously agreed with, and then accuse the president of not working with them, and getting nothing done.

As far as my personal economy goes, I've maintained my standard of living, my retirement fund has doubled (by market gains, not adding to it), I've been able to get grants and loans to help send my daughters to college (direct loans, without the middleman) and I can now get my daughters who have pre-existing conditions new insurance that might actually pay for stuff. I feel like Obama's policies are working for my middle class family.

Just tell those millions who are unemployed or underemployed that Romney will not change their situation as far as getting their dream job, but he will make life a hell of a lot harder for you once you are unemployed or underemployed.

If I were to grade Obama I'd give him a B and that's a lot for all he had to do. I don't think many could better him who are still alive.

2) Lowest labor-participation rate since the 1960's

6) $6 Trillion in Debt added in less than 4 years

Are you people who say 'no one could have done better' serious? Obama focused on passing 'healthcare' for the first two years when he had 'total control' of congress. He could have done 'anything' he wanted with regard to job creation at that time. He has delayed-prevented oil drilling (gulf-land) which would have created more jobs and possibly helped our oil production. Remember his famous line about 'shovel ready jobs' and then his 'laughing' about the fact that 'maybe there were not so many after all'? He prevented the oil line from being built....more jobs lost! I agree he had a significant challenge when he walked into the WH. However, don't tell me he could not have done more during the past 4 years to help the situation. There are so many lies that I don't have the time to list them all. Our president has failed. He told too many whoppers to get elected to office that it won't work again, his time is up.

Believe it or not, I actually agree with you about jobs - it should have been his #1 priority when he took office and he chose, instead, to go after health care. I wasn't a bit happy about that when it happened, and I consider it Obama's biggest mistake in office.

Having said that, in consideration of all that he has accomplished since (which Republicans, of course, steadfastly refuse to acknowledge), and considering also that Mitt Romney has shown himself to be the modern equivalent of a snake-oil salesman, a man without scruples, integrity or ideals, a man who can be trusted only to change his position to suit his audience...the choice is a no-brainer.

Then, we allow the Super Pac’s with little regulation and full anonymity to influence our American elections through the sheer volume of money that has been used to mislead the public to elect a corporate candidate or pass a corporate sponsored bill!

Our congress is bought and paid for by lobbyists and are involved with insider trading, doing the bidding for those who put the most money in their pockets! They get rich while we the “freeloaders” get cuts to Medicare and Social Security all the while the congress receive a tax payer salary and health benefits for life for themselves and their family compliments of the “freeloaders”.

We've legalized Corporations (Citizen's United) as people! They can now buy any election they want to, from sheriff to president! They don't even have to be American corporations! Corporations have severed their moral contract with America. It used to be you worked hard and helped them gain success and you shared in their success through better wages and benefits, all you get now is a pink slip.

The BP Corporation will likely not be charged with any criminal malfeasance in the largest natural disaster in history. The oil leak continues to flow and there are reports Corexit is still being used without any oversight by the U.S. - Many scientists claim the gulf loop current has been broken and the gulf sea floor has been permanently cracked. If you want evidence of the leak just talk to the residents and oil spill workers living along the gulf from Texas to Florida.

This includes making people work for free. You think I’m kidding about the free labor? Here’s a line straight from the EO that says, “. . . to employ persons of outstanding experience and ability without compensation. . .” This is authorized even in peace time!

Jobs and the housing market are also now recovering, we have had 30 months of straight drop in unemployment, and today, as many people are employed as were employed when Obama was elected; the difference being, of course, that we are now headed up instead of heading down.

Let's just take Romney at his word that he somehow will give everyone everything that they want. Let us ignore the fact that his math just doesn't add up. The Obama campaign has finally, the day after the debates, come up with the President's economic plan for the next 4 years. The plan is devoid of detail and budgetary information but is full of wishful thinking. Obamanomics is really impossiblenomics. This is one of the parts that I like the best"

Do some nation-building here at home: We’ll use half the savings from ending the war in Afghanistan to help pay down our debt and invest the rest in fixing our roads, runways, bridges, and schools.
End overseas wars and rebuild our economy. After responsibly ending overseas operations, the President will reinvest in our country by:

• Committing half of the money saved from responsibly ending overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan to reducing the deficit and the other half to investing in public infrastructure.
• Investing an additional $210 billion over six years to support a million jobs improving America’s roads, bridges, transit systems, railways, aviation systems and runways, and putting construction workers back to work.

Four years ago, without conditions of any kind to include any act of congress, the President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet in fact it exceeded 1.1 trillion dollars. That says a lot for the President's fiscal planning and sense of budget. For the past 4 years the President has been proposing a tax increase on the "rich" that congress has yet to pass. This increase in taxes would at most divert 100 billion dollars per year from the private sector to the public sector. The federal government has been trying to spark the economy by injecting more money. This move will have the opposite effect and will do little to solve our debt problem. so using 2012 figures the federal government will still have a trillion dollar debt to deal with.

According to the President's nomination acceptance speech, the troops will be coming home in 2014 so by 2015 the peace dividend will be in full effect. According to the President's plan, he is expecting to net more than 2 trillion dollars per year by bringing the troops home. It will take at least 1 trillion dollars to balance the budget and of course that has to be done before we can start running a surplus. Balancing the budget is done with just half of the peace dividend. That is why the peace dividend will have to be greater than 2 trillion dollars per year. So the President is claiming that we are spending more than two trillion dollars per year on the war on Afghanistan which is less than true. If the federal government cut out all defense spending that then cut the rest of the budget in half it would not generate the required savings. The President's plan is fantasy economics. The President's plan is mathematically impossible. It is the President who needs more math education.

I am always amazed that the opposing view is always collapsed and their opinions are not derogatory, racist or profane. The only conclusion to draw is many of the liberal types prefer to suppress free speech and can not handle opposing views. Kind of funny isn't it?

Four years ago, without conditions of any kind to include any act of congress, the President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet in fact it exceeded 1.1 trillion dollars. That says a lot for the President's fiscal planning and sense of budget. For the past 4 years the President has been proposing a tax increase on the "rich" that congress has yet to pass. This increase in taxes would at most divert 100 billion dollars per year from the private sector to the public sector. The federal government has been trying to spark the economy by injecting more money. This move will have the opposite effect and will do little to solve our debt problem. so using 2012 figures the federal government will still have a trillion dollar debt to deal with.

According to the President's nomination acceptance speech, the troops will be coming home in 2014 so by 2015 the peace dividend will be in full effect. According to the President's plan, he is expecting to net more than 2 trillion dollars per year by bringing the troops home. It will take at least 1 trillion dollars to balance the budget and of course that has to be done before we can start running a surplus. Balancing the budget is done with just half of the peace dividend. That is why the peace dividend will have to be greater than 2 trillion dollars per year. So the President is claiming that we are spending more than two trillion dollars per year on the war on Afghanistan which is less than true. If the federal government cut out all defense spending that then cut the rest of the budget in half it would not generate the required savings. The President's plan is fantasy economics. The President's plan is mathematically impossible. It is the President who needs more math education.

How do you think Romney is promising 12 million jobs??

Both campaigns and most economists know that the economy will improve and revenue will start coming in again.. Its supposed to be above 3 trillion dollars in the next few years.. Right before the 2008 recession the Bush administration calculated just 50 billion short of 3 trillion for revenue.. In the end that figure was 2.1 trillion (recession)... Come on this is stuff you Romney lovers should know what is going on???

I do realize that there are lots of wealthy Democrats and I realize that the demographics of the Democratic party is the college educated professional middle class , while the Republican party caters to the more illiterate right wing Christian base. The point I'm making is that the majority of the top 400 I'm talking about are devout Conservatives. We all know that. They are the ones that feel that they don't need to pay any increase in taxes. They don't believe that they should have to pay their fair share of taxes although they control all the wealth in the country. Warren Buffet is a good example. He believes he should pay more in taxes as should all the others like him, That's what makes him a Democrat over a Republican.

It will take at least 1 trillion dollars to balance the budget and of course that has to be done before we can start running a surplus. Balancing the budget is done with just half of the peace dividend. That is why the peace dividend will have to be greater than 2 trillion dollars per year. So the President is claiming that we are spending more than two trillion dollars per year on the war on Afghanistan which is less than true. If the federal government cut out all defense spending that then cut the rest of the budget in half it would not generate the required savings. The President's plan is fantasy economics. The President's plan is mathematically impossible. It is the President who needs more math education.

@Jody... I live in Green Valley, Henderson, and I am an Obama supporter. Though I can't vote, my husband will be voting once again for President Obama. I do have an Obama 2012 magnet on my car. However, our POA does not allow political signs on our yard. Many POAs are the same way.

I am not a freeloader. Never requested government aid in any form, though I did apply for and receive a green card. I've had a job ever since I graduated from college. My husband and I are in the 'job creator' income category. We don't have kids and we do very well financially. We have our own home in another state and we live in a very nice home in Henderson. We have a pool and spa. We travel, we enjoy fine dining, we enjoy shows, low- and high-brow entertainment and... gasp! I even like opera. Sacre bleu!

Yet we believe in the dignity of all humans. Simply because some people are not born as fortunate as I have been it does not make them less than human or less worthy of my respect and assistance. You see, when we come together and form a government, we do so with the expectation and understanding that our common good will prevail over our selfish desires.

One philosopher who influenced the founding fathers of this country, Thomas Paine, believed that society is based on the common good. The President has often stated this very idea when he has said that the country does well when we all do well.

Moreover, I also believe that we are all equal, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion or non-religion, disabilities, etc. And I also believe that females are smart enough to make medical decisions on their own, regardless of the religious viewpoint of those in power.

Lastly, I can't believe that it is a right to own a gun but it is a privilege to have health care. Despite my well-off financial status, I too had the 'joy' of dealing with medical expenses when I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and having the 'pleasure' of being denied insurance due to my preexisting condition.

It is unconscionable to me that there is always plenty of money for a war somewhere, but none for such a basic necessity as health care. It is also unfathomable to me that in this nation there is such contempt for intellectualism, the arts, science, and rational thought. How can a country where more people believe in angels than in evolution thrive in the 21st Century?

I guess that just puts the lie to the fellow who equates the lack of Obama stickers with some sort of conservative upswing. Northern California isn't about to jump for Romney just because people there aren't displaying Obama magnets on their cars.

I honestly never bought into the whole "enthusiasm gap" theory. What matters isn't how many cars display your bumper stickers. What matters is how many voters put their mark beside your name on the ballot.

2008 was a different year, and Obama was a rock star. People got more excited because he was an exciting personality. This time, he's "just" the President and everyone is more subdued about flying their respective flags. I've been the same way about displaying my politics this season, but I've never been in any doubt about where my vote will go.

If the President had won (or at least, not lost) that first debate, we probably wouldn't even be having this conversation and the election would be as good as done. That's how fickle the American electorate can be.

In spite of that, I still believe that when all is said and done, the President will prevail, partly because he has what it takes to do the job, and partly because Romney has never quite figured out how to stand for anything longer than it takes him to switch his audience.

The so-callled "Romney momentum" is a myth. Obama still leads in virtually all of the "battleground" and swing states, and has more possible routes to the 270 electoral votes than his opponent.

The night of November 6th will be a long one, for sure, but America will wake up on the 7th to four more years of Obama/Biden.

Because the state of how political campaigns are managed has devolved into manipulation and deception rather than civil discussion and honest persuasion, I can't say what I think Romney WILL do well as president. Here's 3 things I HOPE he would do.

1) Bring the Republican leadership back to moderate positions so that Congress can become effective again. The authoritarian (or "authoritarian follower") personalities that have commandeered powerful positions in Washington are too extreme and rigid-minded to be in charge.

2) Bring in new faces into his administration. If he stacks the deck with Bush/Cheney retreads, he will appear merely a figurehead to some other agenda.

3) When he tries to "fix the economy", I would hope that he present a coherent, logical, and mathematically-feasible plan that doesn't bend the Constitution to Capitalism's bidding.

Ironically, I have to be "conservative" this election and go with what I know, Pres. Obama's leadership and vision for America. Voting for Gov. Romney feels way too risky, a wild card, given what I know about who's money and what values are supporting his campaign. I'm willing to give "hope and change" four more years. Hope you'll honor the will of the people if Pres. Obama is re-elected. I pledge to you, that if Pres. Romney is elected, I will give him due respect as president for the sake of our country. I don't think it is wise or presidential to stick to a story that is obviously not true. It is best to come out with all of the facts that do not pose any threat to security immediately. But his sole thoughts were that it might harm his reelection chances. Heaven forbid. People died based on his decisions over the last couple of months concerning issues in Libya. He desparately wants everything to look as if all is well on his watch. Guess what? They continue to attack us! And he continues to campaign. Going to Nevada to a campaign rally when things were going on that should have required his attention shows where his heart and mind are. Gaining another 4 years. Sad commentary on the man. I hope that we find out all of the facts well in advance of the election so that the American people get the real idea of who Obama is. Maybe the undecideds will get knocked off of the fence.

jes33, do you know how many times US embassies were attacked from 2000 - 2008? Do you know how many people died? Try 10 times, try dozens. Not once did I ever hear anyone cry to the rooftops that it was Bush's fault. The Right could not have cared less. Do you think Obama should have rushed out to make a statement before the facts were known? Do you think he should have jumped up and down before others were known to be safe?

Very well stated. Our economy is by no means healthy, but at least it is slowly growing rather than rapidly shrinking as it was when Obama took office. But Americans are impatient, and we don't always deal with bad news very well.

There is no political willpower in Congress to make the painful spending cuts that need to be made. Romney has already expressed his great opposition to allowing the automatic spending cuts in defense to take effect, and of course he also opposes any new taxes. That is a recipe for another 4 years of $1 trillion a year deficits! Unless by some stroke of luck our economic growth picks up dramatically and tax revenues naturally increase as a result.

Romney comes across as a "Santa Claus" president who says we can all have our cake and eat it too. But we all know the numbers just don't add up. Obama sugar coats reality too, just to a lesser degree.

What we really need is a charismatic leader that everyone will support who can look the American people in the eye and say "sorry folks, this is going to hurt. We need to pay our way, and the only way we can do that is to cut spending by a lot, and at least raise some taxes."

A trillion dollars a year is a huge hole to fill. There is no Santa Claus magic that can fill that hole, but any politician who tells people bad news -- even when it's the truth -- gets run out of town!
