Rock Center
They provide the fodder that both Rush Limbaugh and Jon Stewart run with. From Media Matters to the Media Research Center, Ted Koppel takes us inside the industry where gaffe seekers spend their day watching and listening for the next comment that could deal a blow to the political opposition.

Media Matters is Obama's best propaganda tool. They are a POS.

...good watchdogs - they are all good to read and consider when following the press.
I also like Project Censored: [www.projectcensored.org]
And anything that Robert McChesney writes: [www.robertmcchesney.com]
You have to be informed to follow the press. FAIR is the most biting for both sides, McChesney the most thoughtful. Project Censored always has a piece or two that stops me in my tracks. Free Press has done a lot of educating on internet issues. On The Media is easy listening; I get them Saturday's on NPR. What kind of voyeur am I when I am watching those who are watching? Ha!
ladyruth, POS cuts both ways. How would you describe Fox News? Fair and balanced or the Republicans' best propaganda tool? If there's an ounce of integrity in your bones, you know I'm right.
ladyruth, POS cuts both ways. It all depends on which organization you most take exception to. In my case, it's a cable news network that uses "fair and balanced" as a daily catch phrase.
Once again, Brian Williams makes a comparison that is not valid. Mitt Romney's comments on the "47%" actually occurred--nothing had to be taken out of context. The false analogy with Obama's comments on "redistribution" 14 years earlier were taken out of context. If Williams wanted to cite that incident, he should have mentioned that the Republican commercial edited the president's comments to eliminate his references to the free market and the importance of innovation and competition.
I An edited version of Mitt Romney's speech to a group of invited guests who wanted an answer to a question should have been mentioned. Several minutes were lost in never, neverland. Why can't news be given correctly and let people themselves decide what to believe. Do you think Obama needs help? He has the Chicago Machine, Unions,News Media and you. I am a disgusted Democrat that watches TCM a lot because I do not trust the news fron any politician or Network. There are a lot of me out there. We will decide if we are better off, trust the right person to lead this country and frankly, anyone except the one in there telling lies and playing with Hollywood. I wish from the way he has handled this latest problem that has developed around the world he should be impeached.
Brian Williams has once again engaged in false equivalence. Comparing Governor Romney's comments on the "47%" with President Obama's comments on "redistribution" fourteen years ago was unfair. The Republican ad selectively edited the president's comments to eliminate his references to the importance of the free market and competition. Nobody distorted Romney's comments--the media just played the tape of his comments as they were originally spoken without editing. A journalist's job is to report the truth, not merely an example from the left and another from the right and call it "balanced." It might be "balanced" but it's not journalism.
NBC "fair and balanced"??? That's not the way I see it. It's amazing to me that NBC would try to make themselves look "middle of the road" on issues. I get news from several news outlets, from conservative to liberal, from print to digital. NBC is not middle of the road, nor is it fair and balanced. Good try though.
I can tell by tone of voice that most of the main network newscasters support liberalism. They favor Obama, the failed stimulus, and the health care program, and dislike Republicans, conservatives, and Christians. They favor gay rights and abortion. And several of the newscasters said that they didn't want to wait for the health care program to start. They want these things for themselves.
I say it is wrongdoing for ANY journalist to take sides. Yet, that is exactly what I see. Freedom of the press is based on an unbiased press. Yet what I see lately could be called electioneering.
It has now been determined that the Romney tape was edited. This is nothing more than the typical Democrat trick to discredit the Republican candidate. They do it every time. I am surprised that the news media have not yet figured this out.
The worst Democrat trick ever was when Clinton ordered military and active reserve men on maneuvers on Election Day in 2000. Any serviceman who had not voted absentee was not allowed to vote. Two friends of mine were affected by this.
There is no such thing as fair and balanced when it comes to any form of media. and neither side will ever be completely honest with the truth. From individual stories to political advertising, How could a legitimate network run adds that are vaguely the truth, or maybe not , depending on who you want to believe. all with the slant of the acting reporter. The problem is not the networks, it is the people, Mose are not educated enough to know what is the truth or a half truth, and most others only hear what they want to hear anyhow. So scream out what you think the dummys want to hear and rake in the bucks. and hope someone with a real education will call you on your lies, because that will only bring in more bucks. Reminds me of an old james bond movie, The media mogle trys to start a war by firing the first shot and then lieing to the world. Well bend over and spread your cheeks hon, this is what all media do to you every day, and you are still smiling
Vetting Obama. Was he? Did you? Remember the question Brian Williams asked when Barrack was in Germany? And you have the nerve to have Ted Koppel on insinuating he is fair and balanced? You are only fooling yourselves. Why were the segments of Coulter and Maher framed differently? Coulter with an entire body shot, Maher close up cropped? Why? Are you aware of the effect that leaves with viewers - yes of course you are. America's not falling for it anymore Brian
Koppel is not a media critic. How can you compare a mistaken statement about a candidate's wife's work history, not even a very cutting remark either, the to weeks of sexist attack (coordinated, too) on a coed seeking health care options? One goes from a working wife to a non-working wife the other goes from law student to nymphomaniac hooker. Koppel needs to listen to Maher who commented later.
MAHER: The left is not further left. The left is further right. See, this is the problem that the media makes. The left is not further left. The Republicans keep staking out this further and further ground to the right, and then demanding that the Democrats meet them in the center. Except it's not the center anymore. It's the center right.
