19-year-old U.S. gymnast John Orozco dreamed that a medal in London would help his struggling family move out of the Bronx. But the weight of lucrative deals knocked the young gymnast off balance when the bright lights were turned on. NBC's Willie Geist report, 'After the Gold Rush' airs Thursday, Aug. 16 at 10pm/9c on Rock Center with Brian Williams.

I believe all of the pressure sounding his family financial problems, and him being the amazing son that he is cost him a medal. He put a lot of pressure on himself that he just let the enjoyment of the sport go away. Yes, you think about what winning a medal would do money wise, but I think that shouldn't be your main focus on why you want to go to the Olympics. I hope he makes the 2016 games in Rio, so that he can focus solely on the sport that he came to love. The endorsement deals will come down the line.
I agree that John put a lot of unnecessary pressure on himself, but the truth is, he did amazingly well for such a young gymnast. It just wasn't shown on the Olympic coverage in the US. In the All-Around, for example, they showed John after his mistake on pommel horse which dropped him to 24th place (out of 24)...and that was the last we saw of him. They didn't show him nailing all of his other routines to get back to 8th place by the end of the competition. An amazing comeback, and for him to be among the 10 best gymnasts in the world so soon after he tore his achilles is AMAZING.
I think he's an amazing athlete. A wonderful role model who is humble to the end. There are a lot of athletes at his level who would be complaining about the lack of coverage. Instead, he doesn't make any excuses and admits his mistakes. Classy.
