Rock Center Preview
Scientists are building the world's most advanced radio telescope in Chile's Atacama Desert on a plateau halfway between Earth and space. In this preview video, Rock Center correspondent Harry Smith journeys to Chile to see the ALMA observatory, which looks straight out of Star Wars and has an ambitious goal: to unlock the secrets of the universe.
Harry Smith's full report, 'Great Beyond,' airs Thursday, July 5 at 10pm/9c on NBC's Rock Center with Brian Williams.

You have to love some of the technical jargon in the NBC MSN ALMA video- "it will blow everything else out of the water" :). While the telescopes are indeed technically impressive, they might have also looked under the hood at the state of the art THz electronics of the receivers that detect and process the radiation from outer space.
