Aaron Sorkin is famous for penning some of the most memorable lines in television and the movies. On the set of his new HBO show, The Newsroom, Savannah Guthrie interviews Sorkin about the inspiration behind his writing style.

would have been nice if Aaron name was on the screen at the beginning of the piece. Millions of Americans wear hearing aids and the graphics people should know that we all would like to know the spelling and pronunciation of the people you interview.
I always thought that you were a pretty young looking guy. Then I saw that we share birthdays only one day apart and two years apart. Maybe I am as young looking as you. That would be nice.
I like your show. I am comfortable with the rhythms. I was glad to watch tonight. I’m tired tonight, but I have a project to work on. I am a residential architect. Not exclusively, I can take on a project up to about $1.5 million, yet I have been the architect on a lovely $3 million restaurant.
You showed a story about Aaron Sorkin. Such a cool guy! You are right: he’s brilliant; a great writer. I loved The West Wing. A Few Good Men, Is quotable. And then you made a comment with humility regarding your own writing. That was the comment that prompted me to write this letter.
My background: a regular American. College educated. Professional Architect. Out of work for three years due to economic conditions. Working at Neiman Marcus as a sales associate selling mass produced “artistic” gifts in order to earn a regular $20k paycheck with healthcare benefits so my family is protected from catastrophic healthcare issues (thank God someone will hire this over-educated, over experienced obvious looser). Trust me, I am an optimist! There is or will be a silver lining.
My real reason for this letter is that you have absolutely NO reason to act humble in the presence of Aaron Sorkin when it is only demeaning to us “poor schlepper” Americans who can only support their own families because a company like Neiman Marcus will hire an over 50 year old person with an education and a profession.
I’m jealous. No doubt. I don’t know how to emerge into “stardom”. You are a nice guy to watch on the tube. Please don’t act all humble like you did. You and Savannah, just do your jobs.
Thank you. And believe me, I want to succeed. So please, find a different way to be humble.
"A Few Good Men" is my favorite movie of all time. I think I can recite every line. Of course, a writer will always think of something pithier, but believe me, Mr. Sorkin, to me that writing was spot-on with no improvement needed. The problem I see with some of today's shows is that everyone is trying to get on the Sorkin train -- the dialogue is soooo long, so clipped and frenetic, it just doesn't even sound remotely realistic.
