Marvin Davis
Rock Center
The iron workers assembling the last few floors of One World Trade Center say that their work above New York City’s skyline is more than just a job.
“It’s a part of history. It’s a part of rebuilding you know, part of putting lives back together to show people that the spirit won’t be broken,” iron worker Marvin Davis told Harry Smith in an interview broadcast on NBC's Rock Center with Brian Williams.
Davis is the general foreman at the World Trade Center site. He is part of the generations of Mohawk Indians who have built New York’s famous skyscrapers. Both Davis and his son are helping construct One World Trade Center, formerly called the Freedom Tower.
“It’s a fortress. It’s a better built building than I’ve been on ever,” Davis said. “With the concrete and the steel, you know, both of them together combined, you know, this thing is, I think is impenetrable.”
The original One World Trade Center was destroyed in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001. In the 10 years since 2,753 people perished in attacks on the towers, a team of more than 200 iron workers clad in fluorescent vests and hard hats have nimbly built One World Trade Center. The building now soars more than 1,244 feet. The tower is a couple of weeks away from surpassing the height of the roof of the Empire State building.
“We’re right there,” said iron worker Kevin Murphy. “In the next couple of weeks, we’re there. That’s going to be another big, you know, special day. Pretty much from here on up, everything’s special, you know?”

NBC News
Murphy is one of several iron workers who lost someone they knew on Sept. 11, 2001. The completion of the building will mark an emotional moment for Murphy, the lieutenant superintendent of steel erection at One World Trade Center.
“Just to be part of something that’s going to be the tallest building in the nation and a monument to all the people that lost their lives down here. As an iron worker, you couldn’t ask for a better place to work,” Murphy said.

As the workers ascend farther into the heavens each day, placing and setting beam after beam, scrawled on some of the beams are the names of those who perished on 9/11. The building, made of steel and glass, is also full of emotion.

“Way more emotion than we’re used to. We’re iron workers. We don’t show our emotions well, but around here, you can’t help it, you know. You see families come. You’re looking down at the memorial. You see everybody looking at the memorial. This is definitely a very emotional place,” Murphy said.
In a matter of months, the tower is expected to “top out.” That’s what it means when the last steel beam gets put in place. After the spire is added, One World Trade Center will be the tallest building in the United States at a symbolic 1,776 feet.
For Murphy, the construction of the World Trade Center towers is in his blood. His father helped build the first World Trade Center towers.

Murphy came to Ground Zero to clean up in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks.
“[I] didn’t really talk about it with anybody when it first happened, because it was so intense, just to be down there and then to come home and have to answer the questions about it, but it was definitely surreal and the things we saw, nobody should really have to see,” Murphy said.
Murphy’s wife, Heather Murphy, said her husband’s chance to build One World Trade Center is helping him heal.

NBC News
Kevin Murphy
“Having been there right when it happened, I didn’t know if he would ever come out of that. He was so sad for so long, so the fact that now he’s in a place and bringing it back is so big, so huge. It’s kind of the best part about it. He gets to rebuild it. He doesn’t just have to have the memory of what it was,” said Heather Murphy through tears.
Murphy’s fellow iron worker, Eric Hunt, also helped sift through the smoldering debris 10 years ago.
“I was down here doing some burning one night and I was burning this big gusset plate open and I started on one end and worked my way to the other end and when the steel opened up, there was two ladies laying there holding hands,” said an emotional Hunt.
Hunt, a veteran iron worker who helped repair the World Trade Center after the 1993 bombing, said he’s thankful to be building One World Trade Center.

NBC News
Eric Hunt
“In the beginning, it was sad and every day, you had to overcome that, but as you get into it and you make it through your days and you spend a month, a year, whatever, it becomes a sense of necessity. You know, this had to be done,” Hunt said.
Hunt said that as they build higher and higher, the iron workers feel a “little bit of glory.”
“Every man here has put a sense of pride into this building and it’s just heavy duty, has armor. It’s modern day pyramids,” Hunt said.

This is even better than watching bin laden, getting assault rifles emptied in his face, then kicking the bucket, and that wonderful gory scene. To all the anti-American hate-mongers out there: EAT DIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eat dirt? Hope that made you feel better because that was a really lame and resentful way to celebrate this.
Some of the biggest hate-mongerers I know are American.
There's a difference between constructive criticism and hate. You, my friend, need to learn the difference.
The new World Trade Center building is not built by red-necks in search of some kind of revenge.
The building is the product of dedicated men and women who believe liberty and true American values will persevere despite the lunatics running around the world as well as leading this nation.
Now the new Victory Mosque next door will allow them to destroy the bulding without airplanes
RogerRamjett - to paraphrase a famous quote ...
What does it gain a nation to build two towers but lose its soul and its values ?
The Tower of Babel.
*sigh* There's never a Make Selected Comment Flash in Giant Letters and Shout Itself to the Heavens with Text-to-Speech Technology button when i need one. Well said MrIndia.
I hope One WTC not only becomes a symbol of our resilience, but a turning point for our country in terms of rebuilding our bridges, roads and modernizing our infrastructure. Despite our political differences, we all stand together when threatened, and we all want a better America for ourselves and our children. That is something no terrorist or country can take from us...
Motz I agree. Hope this can finally be a turning point and one way to help us get back on track. We certainly need new and updated infrastructure. I hope too that we can start putting better controls in place as far as maintenance goes and when it comes to design. I hear all to often how new roads are designed to only last so long do to contractors wanting more work and /or states allowing it so they can continue to get more funding. Those are some of the darker sides of civil projects that we need to look at and no longer allow to happen. Another thing I'd like to see as far as getting back on track is erasing this fear we constantly live in. What happened that day was terrible yes and we need to make sure we don't let it happen again but we also can't let it dictate everything we do and cause us to look over our shoulder all the time or allow it to have us reduce personal freedoms all in the name of "security." Things like that have gone to far and need to be brought back to reality. If we continue down that path the terrorists will have won. I won't say they have won yet but so far they have done a good job and did just what they planned to.
As for the tower glad to see it is almost done. The one black mark I'd say is the amount of time it has taken, that is a little bit of an embarrassment, even with all the extra stuff that was involved with this being where its at and all, could've been done sooner and should've. That I think would've been a really good message to all. I hope soon that someone here in the states will look to the sky again and go for the tallest title bring it back home.
At any rate, couple randon thoughts aside and not to lessen the moment, congrats again to those in New York. It is time to stand together once again America.
A beautiful building, much prettier than what it replaces, and a symbol for all that is good about America.
Rockmont - In a way I understand your feelings. Most of us felt the same anguish following the attacks. Most of us wanted the heads of our enemy's on platters (if the truth were known - aside from being politically correct).
And while time heals all wounds, it takes more time for some to heal than for others. I feel your pain and understand. But I also pray you will be able to let this go - as our country did with Germany and Japan.
If our nation would work out the complexity of dependence on middle eastern oil, we might be able to end our war mentality with these people. It will always be "us against them" as long as we have troops fighting them, and as long as we have to bow to our puppet masters who control our lifeblood. Separation from the current reliance on these nations will aid our nations healing, and help all who carry this hatred to get past this ugly chapter.
We can never forget 9-11. And we will never forget the 10+ years of blood and tears since. But in the course of time, the knife that cuts so deep will loose its edge and we will get better.
Good luck Rockmont! We are all in this together!
Rock on, crowning achievement of unity and strength on a national level. I agree don't bring the hate in here, I don't care if you justify it as revenge in a sense, it's still hate and just because Little Boy Blue took your milk don't mean its ok for you to take his.
Muslim center next door, big whoop, its actually a cultural center and no one religion was responsible for 9/11. No one nation was responsible. No one people was responsible. No, it was only a handful of individuals responsible. stereotyping and racism or no more an insult to this countries values than flying a plane into one of its astounding achievements.
We remember that much and we set a prime example for future generations to come.
Go Rockmont Go. I feel the same way. Driving to work every morning I watch that big beautiful tower rise and it makes me feel oh so proud to be an American and a New Yorker. All of us are entitled to our opinions. If you wish to make peace with our enemies you are mistaken. Their hate is equal to our patriotism.
"Ever see a Muslim nation build such a building? With the exception of Dubai, which is a capitalistic nation."
Yes, Hugh Zass, I HAVE seen a Muslim nation build such a building. It's called the Burj Khalifa. It's in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates. At 2716 feet it is the tallest building in the world, dwarfing the current next tallest by 1000 feet (the Taipei 101 in Taiwan).
Dubai, if you haven't figured it out yet, is not a nation. It's a city within a nation, the U.A.E. It does have capitalistic ambitions, though.
And people say Americans are clueless about the Muslim world. I wonder why?
I mis-wrote that above. The Burj Khalifa is in Dubai, not Abu Dhabi. I did want to point out which was the capitol and made a little boo-boo in doing so.
And, jeez, I've been there...
Ignorance is pretty blatant in this nation, mostly because the intellectuals either A, move away and disassociate themselves with the latter, or B, are smart enough to realize they can keep to themselves and would rather that then be on the radar.
@jetjoky- The Burj in Dubai was designed and built by American contractors and engineers. But, who gives a crap about being the tallest building in the world? Just what does that signify, and how does that make one country better than another?
@HughZass- The new WTC is beautiful and it's ambition is a tribute to those we lost in 2001, and a proud memorial, as well as an example of commitment of resolve. It's not meant to make us better than any other country. Buildings don't make countries better than one another. It's the people's character that does.
What a great country we live in ....
We've taught the world so much ....
Now we just need to get this massive debt and deficit off of American's backs ....
You'll never get me to leave out "GOD" ....
In "GOD BLESS AMERICA" ....
Yeah, Americans have taught the world that you can steal land from other people, get high on dope constantly, shop till you drop and consume resources with absolutley no consideration for what GOD has given ALL of humanity! Get over yourself!
@jetjoky "Dubai, if you haven't figured it out yet, is not a nation. It's a city within a nation, the U.A.E."
If you have to grasp that hard at straws to say "and people say Americans are clueless about the Muslim world", you should probably find something better to do.
I'm not American but I also had quite a bit of anti-American sentiment before I came to live here, I'd be the type to find the most trivial mistakes in American YT videos to be able to say "See? Americans are stupid."
One day, you'll grow up (hopefully).
To heck with the political crap today my take on this is my hat is off to all you guys who work on these tall buildings. Never been called a coward before but I draw the line at working where you guys do everyday knowng one false step and its over. (Tips his hat and walks away.......) Now you children can continue your dribble...
@Ulises: STFU
Built another target to be destroyed. Should have not named it the WTC, and should not have built anything too grand. Just painting a new target.
Clifford, What a coward ass statement, why don't we all just do nothing of any value because we sure don't wont to be a target, we can all hide in a hole in the ground, maybe then our accomplishments want make us a target, coward ass.
Clifford Nelson,
You're right, they probably shouldn't have named it the WTC. I think from what they are saying that they are making it 1776 feet as a symbolic gesture and making it strong enough so it can't be brought down as easily as the last ones.
RogerRamjett banned, multiple of rogerramjet44060, also banned. Don't register multiple accounts.
Yes, Clifford, we should have built a really small, short building and named it nothing special so as not to offend anybody...
Proud to see the One World Trade Center almost finished. It will stand tall and mighty to honor the fallen. WWNF 9/11
As a New Yorker, I second that... We Will NEVER Forget 9/11! Our country will stand tall, our country will be free, our country will fight, our country will honor, our country will rise above, our country shall never forget, for all those who have died, those who have fought, those who have volunteered, those who sacrificed. The United States of America shall prevail in any and all injustices that have been brought before US. God Bless the United States of America, and God Bless those who serve our Nation to protect our values. We thank you from the bottoms of our hearts.
Our country will be free? We are losing our freedom at an astonishing pace. You can't get on a plane without being fondled. Soon our women won't be able to get their birth control without being physically raped. We have no control over how our tax dollars are spent. We have no freedom, just the illusion of it
Some states legislators, to please the far-right, are introducing bills where women can't get birth control even if they are raped - they'd be forced to carry their rapists babies.
Let us celebrate our Hero's, and honor those who fell with the Tower's. This is not the time to politicize it.
God Bless America and all whom have sacraficed to preserve our way of life.
A beautiful building, much prettier than what it replaces, and a symbol for all that is good about America. I would have liked to see it taller.
One day, Americans will start working TOGETHER again, and we will once again rise to greatness. The time for petty divisiveness is past. United We Stand, divided, we fall.
To the_mick, to please the far-left, this country has just about abolished any type of open self expression of Christians, and when we do we are mocked. And consider that 85% of this country considers themselves Christian, this is a mockery. Also just think, with the wide majority of the women of who have abortions are liberal and democrat leaning, all the possible brain washed, freedom hating little democrats that were killed off for that little bit of freedom to end human life that the left has a blood lust for. If we far righties, as you classify ones like me as, had our way we'd be in a position not to win anymore elections. Didn't think of that did ya? Also, the biggest reason that we far righties oppose birth control is the fact that the left wackos wish for ones like me to have to pay for it for the little college slut, yes I said it, who won't go get her a job and pay for it herself. My wife takes birth control for two reasons, first she has a medical condition that she has to have the female hormone boost from them. Secondly, we do not wish for a second child at this time. Guess what though, I'd be ashamed if I had to go BEG for someone to help me out. To me it is do different than a wino (pronouced WYNO) I no that is not PC but there is a difference of being homeless because of circumstance and just being a downright BUM, or a drug addict or any other kind of social reprobate begging for money for they are either too lazy, or in the lefts view point too priledged to get it themselves. Well, I'll take that back, most of them are too lazy themselves also.
Jeez...are you writing for a grade school class project??? LOL
jetjoky, the Burj is a joke. Half of it is nonfunctional. They built it to have a spire stick up and technically break the height records. The spire is half the height of the building - the building looks completely ridiculous. The Burj is nothing but a vanity project. The Arab world cannot compete with American skyscrapers - they even had to use some Western architects and engineers to churn out that piece of crap. It truly is a metaphor for the impotence of the Arab world against Western civilization.
Amazing story,
What a wonderful memorial to those who perished.
What a great accomplishment for American technology & knowhow.
How Americans respond to adversity.
YJ Draiman
It's actually kind of a shame it has taken this long to build a single skyscraper. Dubai has erected dozens of very impressive skyscrapers in the same time frame. Along with China for that matter.
Have you built anything better?
The whole thing is propaganda. Most Americans have short attention spans and the presidential election is all most here. Not to mention, they used to store gold under the old trade towers so I'm guessing the new one has several secret improvements. Maybe Wallstreet will like it enough this time they won't demo it and have people in caves take the blame.
Hey Jim- why don't you go to your wonderful Dubia or China to live. Way to trash an amazing story. Idiots like you make me ill. Next your going to tell us that it is your right as an American to express your opinion. It is my right as an American to tell you to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Did you even consider the fact that there was years of clean up involved because the had to carefully sift though the debris looking for human remains. My guess is you probably don't have enough respect or compassion for that either.
God Bless all the dedicated workers who are making this happen and God Bless you because you NEED IT!!!
Aside from the clean-up of the site after the attacks, the only reason it took so long for this building (and the rest of the site) to be built is because of all the sniping and dickering and litigating between the Port Authority, NY City, NY State, the site developer (Larry Silverstein), and the families of the victims of 9/11, all of whom had different ideas of what should be built on the site. Plus the fact that the original design by Daniel Liebiskind (I'm probably spelling his name wrong, but I'm referring to the architect whose design was picked for the site) was unworkable and had to be re-done. As a NY'er, I'm so happy to finally see tangible results after the innumberable delays. And the actual building of this tower, once it was allowed to start, has gone off quickly and without a hitch, which is a testament to the men and women working tirelessly at the site.
William if you are so concerned with Jim's opinion tarnishing a beautiful story, click on his name and send him a message. Your message was 8 times the size and much more negative...who is tarnishing what?
If you think that is the only building in the complex you are quite ignorant. They did not number the buildings in the order of construction, and this is one of the last to be completed, not the first. The complex involves SIX skyscapers, a museum, and a transportation hub
How bout actually knowing what you post about? Ever think of that?
Brian - I have found that a lot of people don't know much about the title: "Rock Center" nor do they know what "30 Rock" stands for. I suggest a short story on Rock Center about the Rockefeller family, Rockefeller center - pro and con - the impact they had on America. Also, the fact that the Rockefellers were involved at the beginning of planning for the World Trade Center. It is 2012 and too many people don't know about that piece of American history and what that family means to New York and America.
Myron Heaton
You mean the guy that died doing his secretary?
No not Clinton, he had a heart attack later
Didn't somebody sell the Rockefeller Center to the Japanese?
What an AWESOME show. I agree with Myron that "Rock Center" needs more. Our young friends do not know about the Rockefeller family.
The News with Brian Williams should be seen by more people. I've forwrded the show from tonight to my e-mail friends. The whole show tonight was truly a great "news worthy" show.
Thank you,
EAC
The story on the Remington guns was unbelievable. Why in the world is this on-going?. Haven't enough people been hurt with these rifles? Or killed?
Brian, you are doing an awesome job reporting.
Thank you
Elizabeth
If you are shocked, then review the Chinese and Soviet guns. Murdered innocent people 10,000 more times
It is so wonderful to see this sight and of a country such as ours to take the pride that has made America strong. I wrote this poem when I was watching the news from this devastating event and at my job at the time we were was on lock down due to threats even in Colorado where I lived at the time. I have read this to many people and I always get an emotional response. The poem is based on the news that I saw and how we came together as a national and I will share it with you now.
“Home of the Free"
Shredded glass
Flew through the air,
From a deadly implosion,
This brought forth
An evil force,
Of a devils face
In the smoky air,
Showing no remorse.
People running for their lives,
Rescuers,
Reaching out to help,
Leaving their own fears behind.
The river of tears came in waves,
As the shock of lost loved ones
Embraced the night.,
Fountains of sorrow overflowed;
Raising spirits overhead,
Out of the fire and smoke.
In the Face of our Enemy,
Courage gave us strength,
And our bravery was symbolized,
By Innocent red and blue handprints,
Of small children expressing their support,
By painting our nations flag,
They showed their compassion,
For a nation of broken hearts.
Heroes paid it forward,
Guiding us to a brighter light,
By helping us to understand each other,
And in return,
We extended our hands,
To the next one,
Who needed a loving friend.
We are America,
Cultures melting into one another,
And with the spirit within us,
We proudly stood together,
United and Strong,
And With no hesitation,
Heroes were born.
We showed kindness to our fellowman,
Courageous fie fighters,
Saved our land,
Soldiers fought and Died,
Holding freedom
In their hand,
From every border,
From every Sea.
This is our place
We hold with great honor,
Our Land;
Home of the Free.
In one word... beautiful.
Tighten up the writing a little to be less like prose. Every preposition and conjuntion does not have to be spelled out. Please do not view this negatively - this poem is 100% publishable, nobody else has come close to writing anything like it. Get it published.
Show was fantastic! Thanks too for the panoramic view! I love watching RockCenter!
All of the blind patriotism is great, but let's not let it blind us to what really happened on that day and how it changed us forever. We still need to look into what happened at World Trade #7 and answer many other questions that have never been answered, or we will all regret it.
I guess you believe Bush did it
trade center 7 had 2 buildings fall on top of it... then burned unchecked for hours.
Chuck, you are misled.
TIN FOIL HAT TIME!!!
TIN FOIL HAT TIME!!!
TIN FOIL HAT TIME!!!
TIN FOIL HAT TIME!!!
Why don't you look at the basic facts of building 7 and structural failure and impact loading instead of trying to promote ridiculous conspiracies.
The basic facts of building 7 are the same basic facts for every steel building on earth. Light them all on fire, rain debris on them, explode fuel tanks in them, damage them in any way, knock them down with flying skyscrapers; no matter what you or all the resources of the world can do, not one of them can be made to fall into the earth PERFECTLY LEVEL at FREE-FALL ACCELERATION unless all the primary supports are simultaneously blown out at multiple intervals in vertical sequence. Takes a hell of a lot of knowledge and prep to set it up well.
You can loudly proclaim your right to be stupid, 'cuz most of you never studied, but you gotta be crazy stubborn to be deliberately blind - your own eyes told you the story.
Totally level demo also requires very precise timing.
No piece of the North or South Tower was ever identified as having touched WTC#7.
Does the NYCFD have any workable plan for evacuating and fire fighting in this new tower, cause their plans for the WTC on 9/11 were pathetic.
you are a f'ing idiot
How so douchebag jd0061? Could you think of a better way to get to the top of a burning tower other than the stairs? How would you get water pressure to the top of the North tower? Show us what you know, dumbass.
Chuck, I agree 100%. Building 7's fall made no sense whatsoever. The building had recently been constructed as a command center for disasters, and built to withstand a great deal. The other buildings around the World Trade Center that had debris fall on them still stood. Building 7 was far away and fell like a demolition team would demolish a building. It was completely destroyed.
Thanks for speaking up! We don't get the opportunity or place to bring this up in this manner very often, and I hope that many will put their name on this wall, because we are many. If we ignore the truth, it will be back to bite us. For you doubters, Google Architects & Engineers for 911 truth, and see for yourself, that thousands of very rational people are looking for the truth, many of them are fire fighters that were there that day!
The truth is that two airplanes hit the Trade Center Towers and caused there collapse. The resulting collapse felled other buildings. Period.
Oh I forgot Obama's real birth certificate was in tower 7. He made in the building collapse to cover it up.
@ Jim-769408 As a resident of NYC, I saw the collapse of the trade centers. neither the North Tower nor the South tower came into contact with building 7 in any way shape or form. the debris from the top of the tower upon impact of the planes may have sprayed building 7 but nothing of substantial value made contact with it. Building 7 was indeed dropped by demolition. You should get your facts about this right, there are far too many videos that show it was "pulled", and if you don't know the term "pulled" then you should really look up on Google, the terms of demolition. North, and South towers also had assistance in dropping into their own footprints, which leads the commoner to realize that they too were "pulled", when a building is knocked over... it doesn't fall into its own footprint, it falls over taking out other buildings, when its pulled it falls into itself, thus protecting other properties. Simple physics would tell and show you that. Do your homework. It might behoove you.
Building 7 was in charge of pending Wallstreet investigations. That's why it went down. It gave more time to the ones waiting for the Big Bailout. Another added bonus to the entire thing coming down is that it allowed several of the theves to transfer money illegally to bank accounts over seas; like Germany. Where years later, honest authorities are so far behind in evidence they haven't begun to catch up.
May I point out that nobody ever said that planes knocked the towers over. They collapsed onto themselves an hour or two after fire weakened the steal. Building 7 had a tower collapse on it... Which started a severe fire that went unchecked... which over several hours weakened the steal... which caused the tower to collapse.
Truthers are nuts. If the government was involved in 9/11... in crashing planes into the two towers... wouldn't they have created an equally 'spectacular' way to take down building 7?
Some people are so content with being ignorant. They present their ignorance as facts... and call others idiots for not following their cult. Good luck to you people.
Also, please tell me about these "wallstreet investigations" happening in september of 2001... when the stock market was booming... and nobody was asking questions.
and may I also add that on the internet I can find where elvis lives, what bigfoots eat, and how many pyramids the aliens built. I'm so sick of people telling me things are true because they read something or saw someone talk about something on the internet.
and I'd also like to point out that I'm an idiot for using the word steal when I meant steel.
aww come on travis we all know easiest was to destroy paper files and some computer hard drives is to demo the entire building
I used to work with a moron who insisted we did not land on the moon. People who believe in government conspiracies have @!$%# for brains!
May God bless all the workers on the new trade center.
uhhh no human has landed on the moon yet...duhhh
"Some people are so content with being ignorant. They present their ignorance as facts... and call others idiots for not following their cult."
- Travis (above)
Oh, the irony...
A movie from a couple of years ago, Inside Job, shows that Wallstreet has been involved in questionable activities before 9/11/11.
McCrarey, I had learned (forgot the source) that the reason why the buildings had fallen into their own footprints is because they were primarily aluminum structures, which simply melted from the fires. What do you say? Please comment.
I say you are clueless. STILL.
The towers were of a "perimeter tube" design of over 200 external columns of STEEL. Not a single structural element of the buildings was of aluminum. That building design doesn't exist anywhere in the world
Do you remember what kind of agencies were in Tower 7? ;-) that should give u a clue as to why it was destroyed.
Thank you jetjocky. Now I really wish I could remember the source of the 'aluminum' theory.
Still wont be as tall as Toronto's CN tower.
Good thought; however it seems you may be missing the whole
historical point of the 1776 number.
CN Tower is not a building which working people have offices. Basically a big radio tower with a visitors perch.
It is also not a penis.
The world trade centers were built using 400 tons of asbestos in each tower. The cost of remediation is more than the value of the building. And these building would have been impossible to sell, so this money was permanently tied up. Also they were fully insured for damages due to airplane collision. But you keep drinking the cool-aid and believe that Arab's with box knifes, who couldn't even fly, took over those airplanes. There is a big difference between at Cessna 152 and an airliner.
Results of 911: Patriot act (the president can declare marshall law anytime he wants), asbestos removal, two wars, significant increase in national debt, elimination of key evidence in building 7 (CIA head quarters, Bush family involvement with CIA), TSA grouping, solidify Bush popularity.
What makes their story believable is that we just can't believe that our own government would kill 3000+ citizens to accomplish their goals. So we call these conspiracy theories.
But, if even one thing in the chain of events is a lie then the rest of the story must be a lie. If building 7 was demolished, which takes two weeks to set up, then the rest of 9-11 is a lie. All three collapses looked like demolitions to me.
Right, Dav1bg. But getting the average American to even consider that 9/11 may have been an "inside job" would be akin to getting a Christian to consider that Jesus is actually a myth. In other words, they simply aren't capable of such a leap in reason and opening of the mind.
As far as "conspiracy theorists" are concerned, EVERYONE is a conspiracy theorist. It's only a matter of WHICH conspiracy you believe in and the particular theory there is regarding it. The title is only designed to denigrate a person that others are opposed to.
It's my belief that, were conclusive evidence come out that 9/11 was an "inside job" enough time has passed that most would simply say, "That's all in the past, let's forget about it and move on."
To all you simple minds: Because someone believes one story is false does not mean a person thinks EVERYTHING is a lie. That is just a straw man argument to further try to label someone as irrational and/or nuts.

That 911 was an inside job is right up there with birthers as the most insane, idiotic, @!$%#ed up, retarded theories.
You're ignorance speaks volumes about you. When a mass murder of 2753 fellow Americans goes uninvestigated by any body with subpoena power in America for ten years, you should KNOW that it is evidence, if not PROOF, that the fix is in. The only explanation for no subpoena power in the investigations of a mass murder, is that those in power don't want the investigation to have the power to get to the truth.
Powerful emotions.
You remember exactly where you were at the moment you learned of the tragedy.
For many it may never be over but we are
close to overcoming our wounds as one nation…
If tax money is involved in this project, it is a total waste of tax money. I don't care about tall buildings so why should I have to help pay for it? Are we so primitive that we still care about building the tallest buildings in the U.S. ? Of course they use the World Trade Center as a mask so all the super-patriotic people will be saying "good job" but in reality it is a big waste. Terrible thing that those who lost their lives have to be dishonored by their tragedy being used to justify this.
How, exactly, is it a "waste" of tax money? Many, many people are employed as a result of the construction of this building. Many more will be working in it when it is finished. It seems like a good investment of our tax money to me.
How is rebuilding a symbol of national pride a waste of tax money? It sends a message to terrorists, namely, that we will not be defeated-- and to ourselves, for that matter, for we will remember our resilience every time we look at it in the future. Again, this is a good investment.
For the sake of discussion, though: What, specifically, would you want to be done with your tax money instead?
It is clear that you did not know or loose anyone from the 9/11 attacks. I am saddened by seeing a comment like this on such a very sensitive matter of US History. I personally would rather see my tax dollars going to something like this to make a point to the world, that our spirits will not be broken! The significance of 1776 is the year this country stood up to Britain and said we will not be ruled by your policies. This also plays true to any terrorist who thinks that the Eagle that fly's over this nation will have its wings clipped. They may have kicked us while we were not paying attention, but guess what, we are focused on this more than anything else in the world. Spend my tax dollars on this projects, spend every single cent to making sure that the world knows that the USA is a country of honor, a country of pride, and a country who will firmly plant our boot in the a$$ of any mother f%^ker who thinks for a moment we are weak.
You do not care about tall buildings, and yopu do not care about police officers and fire fighters either, until you need them! Works the same for the military, no ones cares about them until they need them, that is what is wrong with this country. To be perfectly honest, I do not give a rats arse about you having a paved road to drive on wherever you may live, but I pay a portion of it, just like you pay for a portion of the road I drive on, your reasoning is a sickening mentality that is crippling this country!
Chris Cone, I am glad that it is a more attractive building that has a uniting effect upon most. However, just as a personal opinion, I would have preferred a sizeable, not oversized, well designed monument with a public space around it, for the same reasons you listed.
This has nothing to do with using TAX payers money or constructing a tall building! It has everything to do with patriotism and I, having served in the military for 22 years don't appreciate someone like you being such an idiot! If we would come together more often than trying to fight what Americans are doing to bring this country back together, this world would be a much better place. I would even think that you never served our country in any way, form or fashion! God bless all those Americans who believe and stand for what our country represents! You need to shut your pie whole and crawl back into that space where you have no idea of what's going on in the real world!
So, When the World Trade Centers where built, they were like the tallest buildings in the world. NOW, after 9/11, The new building is going to be the tallest building in America!! Yeah, that will show the rest of the world that we are still number one.Not the tallest in the world, but in our own country!! YEAH!!!! Wow, how we have fallen, and no one seems to understand!!
You seem to be another one out here that is missing the significance of the 1776 height. The point was not to be the tallest. It was to remind all Americans of our roots...
a lot of the new supertall structures are unsuccessful. They're too big. They are tall just for the sake of being tall... not meant for living in or working out of (I'm talking about you dubai). I think a well planned 1776 feet is plenty big.
hmmm Jim, there are a lot of Americans that are ashamed of the "roots". Think about it. And don't tell anyone to go back anywhere...because we're all born here.
It already happened can't be ashamed of it now, just be aware, accept it, embrace it, learn from it and move on.
The '15's' dialogue is valuable and much more of it is needed. These things should have been worked out a few years ago. Come on America, get it figured out, or . . .
No matter how tall our towers are.
America is still the tallest country in the world. Nothing comes close to it in any respect. All its shortcomings, failures and @!$%#s up notwithstanding.
MrIndia-- We used to be!! We used to have the best infrastructure in the world, we used to have the best education in the world, we USED to have the best of the world. We used to think that we were better than everyone else, until they passed us by by actually being better than us. This is a great country, but we are slowly killing yourselves due to greed and not caring about our neighbors anymore. A Country is great due to its people, and WE need to keep our people great!
Wow, I really didn't think I would see that beautiful view of Midtown Manhattan from that high up looking north, again.
Must be very inspiring and an emotional roller coaster working on this project.
Congrats to all.
Thanks to the Iron workers. As a Union Carpenter I have worked the Iron workers on many jobs. They were always fun to work with as they always knew what they were doing, it was a pleasure guys. Again thanks for the One World Trade Center work, you guys are a credit to America.
Oh, and Chris Cone, those guys are all union iron workers, the whole job is union, why not the best?
Probably a good time to remember that only an idiot would believe that a plane fell out of the sky in Washington DC, a city of millions, and nobody saw it. There is enough evidence to convict the Bush administration of this attack in any court in the world. Sorry if that doesn't fit your nice little reality. But then again, there were 39 5.0+ earthquakes today. I doubt we have much longer before everyone is painfully awake.
You mean like that lucky Seal team member awake the son of a freaking bitch, osama!
Your day is coming too, a$$hole.
A lot of camera's caught the entire decent while people on the plane were on cell phones.
The progressive hate is outragious, psychotic, caused Gifford to almost lose her life and shows they are America haters which root for bin Laden
a lot of truthers are also tea partiers. I'm not saying no democrats are truthers, I'm saying all truthers: republican, tea party, or democrat are outrageous and possibly psychotic.
Giffords was shot by a guy who registered as a democrat in 2008... and went to tea party events in 2010. It sounds like he was just a lost person who was against whatever party was ruling. To say that progressive hate is what caused giffords to be shot is also pretty nuts, outrageous and possibly psychotic.
So sfb, the video that we watched the plane hit the Pentagon from the surrounding buildings cameras were all planted by the CIA, or better yet, Mater Dei. Its scary that these losers vote.
What is this "truthers" title? Only those who don't believe the official story on the events of 9/11 are interested in the truth?
As for the video "showing" the "plane" hitting the Pentagon, it was very poor quality video, five frames in length, that showed nothing. It could have been Dumbo the Flying Elephant with a Tomahawk missile strapped to his testacles that caused the eruption of fire. You couldn't tell the difference. Unless, of course, all you WANTED TO SEE was an airliner.
If you've never been in the vicinity of the Pentagon (I have) you may not appreciate just how many video cameras there are on the Pentagon and around it in close vicinity. It is perhaps the most secure building in the world. Yet, the powers that be released to the public only that one crappy video that doesn't show shiite.
And most Americans are OK with that...
I saw the TV coverage as it was happening. I was an air traffic controller. Whatever hit the Pentagon had no wings. There were unbroken windows where a wing should have hit. That was obvious to anyone's eyes who has ever seen an airplane. You don't even have to know those wings are fuel tanks and they carry engines, which would do a lot more than break windows. Look at the slices the wings made in the two towers.
When an airliner goes silent, it is tagged as NORDO (no radio), if it then goes of-course, it is HIJACK and everybody is alerted. Chase planes go up, and If it's headed for the most restricted airspace in the country, it's diverted or shot down.
No amount or kind of damage to building 7 could cause a perfectly even collapse at free-fall acceleration. Only a precision timed controlled demolition can do that.

We saw the video's, psycho
the video's pshycho what?
It has been said by engineers that it would be possible to build a mile high skyscraper, but it would be hard to get full occupancy. Some day we will see one though.
Dubai has built a building of which you can see the curvature of the Earth from the top floors. I am sure that a building that is a mile high would have some serious implications should it too be struck by jumbo jets, but I would imagine that it wouldn't fall into its own footprint such as the North, South towers of World Trade Center and like building 7 did. A building a mile high would take out much more of the city's infrastructure if it were to collapse. Though none the less it would be an impressive feat to achieve.
No, you cannot see the curvature of the Earth from 2700 feet (height of the Burj Khalifa). Not even close. But thanks for playing.
You can begin to discern the curvature from about 43,000 feet, with a clear horizon.
Is it not true that Earth's curvature is visible from the ground, in parts of the Black Rock Desert of Nevada and the Gobi Desert of China?
Then why can I see the Earth's curvature at the top of the arch in St. Louis?
I think that what he is trying to say, is that you cannot see the full half arc of between 90 and 180 degrees of arc until you are at 43,000 feet of elevation.
OIC...thx
Beautiful tower and an inspiring and touching memorial.
As this tower rises above NY's skyline it will provide meaning for people around the globe. For some its a reminder to honor the fallen, others a beacon of hope as we rise from the rubble and build a better future for all, and for a few it is everything bad about America- going to war-commercialism-and another sound bite or pic that glides past deeper more reflective meanings. Hopefully the discussions about the height of these buildings, who the owners are and conspiracy myths will be drowned out and focus on the more important issues of this beacon of hope, dreams and prosperity...it has touched my emotions and I hope we as a nation can become better from the lessons of this tragic event.
11 years later and they're just topping out. This is taking way too long. Not a great way to show our resolve. I pass by this building everyday and it will never compare.
I agree. I was hoping they would rebuild with a similar design (better materials and upgraded standards) but one floor higher!
" the Rockefellers were involved at the beginning of planning for the World Trade Center..."
Too, they donated the land for the construction of the UN building.
"I agree. I was hoping they would rebuild with a similar design (better materials and upgraded standards) but one floor higher!"
Higher than what? The original WTC? Have you been asleep for the past decade, and completely ignored the discussions surrounding the rebuilding? Are you aware of the buildings that have already been built, including the "stump" buildings? Do you know why the "stump" building were constructed. I guess the answer is "no" to all of the questions.
What's a stump building?
go on line and look it up
It was not about the heighth it was about what took place in the building, and what it stood for, it was the "World" trade center. They were hit becasue they were easier targets in the sky. Had they hit the White house, would we rebuild the White House bigger, no!
