In March 2011, NBC News partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC) to launch “Hiring Our Heroes,” a nationwide grassroots initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment in the private sector.

With 117 “Hiring Our Heroes” hiring fairs conducted in local communities in just 12 months, the program has connected more than 100,000 veterans and military spouses with 5,000 different employers in 45 states and the District of Columbia. More than 8,500 veterans and military spouses have gotten jobs.

This year the “Hiring Our Heroes” initiative will expand from 117 hiring fairs to 400 in local communities across America.

While the national unemployment rate is 8.3%, the rate for post 9-11 veterans has been as high as 13.1%, and 30% for veterans under 25 years of age. There are nearly a million unemployed vets and 75,000 of them are homeless. In the next 5 years, another 1 million vets will be released from active duty.

God Bless you Brian Williams, Tom Brokaw and NBC for your efforts to make sure that our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers - OUR HEROS - find their way in the private sector after serving our country so honorably!
I'm a Vietnam verteran. No one has done anything for me. I went to my Congressman, and to my Senator. I'm barely surviving. I've been trying to get into the Wind mill power field, but Nebraska has not one place to get qualified learning programs.
It seems that whenever someone of stature does something good, its never done from the rural places in America. It's always done from the mega cities and towns. I am a Vietnam Veteran, and am just getting by. I have been trying to get into the Turbine wind mill business, but Nebraska has no place to get anywhere with it.
Come to the wide open spaces of Nebraska and see me.. I need a job badly
Over 20 Companies Unite To Offer Veterans Jobs This Thursday
Southbay Veterans Employment Committee and PinkSlipMixers to help military service members find work by introducing them to hiring companies in the Los Angeles Area.
The Southbay Veterans Employment Committee and PinkSlipMixers.com are partnering with ICDC to host the “Veterans’ Friendly Job Event” this Thursday March 29, from 9 AM to 2 PM at the World Business Center located at 1891 North Gaffey Street in San Pedro (). Last week, PinkSlipMixers.com kicked off the “Rip Up Our Pink Slips” movement that empowers the unemployed and underemployed by publicly proclaiming their availability to work. This week, PinkSlipMixers continues the movement by focusing on military service member and help them find work by introducing them to hiring companies.
Although the job market has had the highest improvement since the start of the 2008 recession, Military Service Members entering the workforce have one of the highest unemployment rates of any demographic set. Often overlooked and passed up by hiring companies, military professionals can help struggling companies improve their businesses. Edwin Duterte says, “Our US Military has invested a lot of resources to their members and many of their talents can be utilized in the private sectors. We need to publicly acknowledge that fact and convince companies that our service members will be a valuable resource to make them money.”

I can put 5 to 10 veterans to work within 2 to 4 weeks. i own a small business (Commercial Flooring Company) We are gearing up to start a large project at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. My only stumbling block is that i am owed a large sum of money from a job we performed at the IMF International Monetary Fund Building in Washington DC from 2010 which is greatly affecting our cash flow. I hear a lot about the IMF in the news but i just dont understand why they wont pay their bills to a small business who performed excellent work in their buildng. I also am owed a good piece of money from Tyler Perry the actor for a job we did at his house (swimming pool). Brian help me out puting pressure on these customers of mine negative publicity for both parties and i will employ 5 to 10 veterans within the next month.
Hi, I would like to comment on helping military spouses find jobs. You probably are unaware of the fact that the main families making a living right now are military workers, and there is no reason to hire their spouse when they already have an income to pay their bills. If you are interested in persuing equal justice, than take an interest in my situation where my family and our town of Othello, Washington was used in our government's nuclear studies in the early 1950's. This is one of the biggest government cover-ups in our nation. Our government would bring a foreign country to justice for the same thing they did to us in our country.
Really, just because a person is a spouse of a military member they don't deserve a job. You need some help (mental), these spouse go through more in one year than you have in your entire life. Don't put down on what you don't understand. Your local unemployment agency provide you with the same opportunity as the spouse are offered. So stop cry! If you don't like the area that you live in MOVE, Military spouse are not afforded that opportunity. They have to stay where their Service member is located....
