ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: While uncovering Mitt Romney's Mexican ancestry for Rock Center, NBC's Mike Taibbi looks at how field reporting can be both informative and entertaining. In this behind-the-scenes online exclusive, Taibbi points out some of the fun moments the production team experienced while producing 'Romney's Roots,' including a game called 'rope the producer'.

The piece was a biased slam on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Balanced reporting would have introduced church doctrine from an authoritative fugure, similar to that of a priest in the Catholic Church, that includes faith in God the Eternal Father and in his Son, Jesus Christ.
When will you do a story on President Barack Obama's roots. Mitt Romney is not the President nor is he the Republican candidate yet however, President Obama is the candidate and is the President. NBC has a reputation for being bias and this story plays right into that theory or is it fact? You will not do a story on President Obama because you will need to include Auntie Zetuni and Uncle Omar. How is that not more newsworthy than Mitt Romeny's relatives living in Mexico? Shame on the bias you are showing.
Mitt is lucky he knows his relatives as Obama has to research his history. McCain was lucky and showed his black relatives who have a family gathering every two years on the McCain Family land.
Mitt like many who families have grown in wealth and don't look back. The report was excellent. I remember George Romney talking about his life from Mexico to the USA. George Romney worked hard with nothing but federal help and was successful in the American Dream. George Romney had Willard Mitt when he was 40 years old already a wealthy man. Mitt never saw a day of need or hardship while living wealthy he never gave a thought to those family members in Mexico. With the US dealing with Civil Rights it's not smart to ID your minority family. But for those who attack Brian Williams for his report, when Mitt get's the nomination he will welcome his minority relatives to show he's for all the people. Obama born bi-racial couldn't hide his black family because of his color. Many white leaders never exposed they were part black or Hispanic. Even those remarking with hate would be shocked to learn of their minority relatives.
So which is closer, Mitt's great grandfather or Barack's father. They both practiced polygamy, except Mitt's great grandfather married each of his wives and supported them throughout his life. He didn't abandon them and his children.
Mitt did know hardship in France when he lived in a flat without a refrigerator and with outside plumbing.
As a descendant of someone born in the colonies, who has visited and still has relatives there, I thought the story was balanced and well done. The current immigration policies in the US are clearly broken and unworkable Perhaps Mitt and his relatives can come up with a solution which actually works? Much of Mexico is broken these days (corruption, drug wars, etc.) which is what is driving people north Hopefully, there's a good solution for everyone in there somewhere.
Mike made one error, George Romney was the President of American Motors and not Chrysler, although Chrysler later acquired American Motors long after George was departed from the company. The rest of the story is great and accurate!
