Heading into the New Hampshire primary, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has a strong lead in the polls as he continues his effort to become the Republican nominee challenging President Obama in the fall. That would mean, of course, that the 64-year-old Romney would be closer to The White House than any Mormon ever has been.
If Romney secures the nomination, he would also be the first presidential nominee whose father was born in Mexico.
It's a little-known fact that there's a whole branch of Mitt Romney’s family living south of the border, including his second cousin Leighton Romney, and about 40 other relatives descended from religious pioneers who first traveled to Mexico 125 years ago. These days, the Romneys of Mexico enjoy pleasant and productive lives in two remaining settlements: Colonia Juarez and Colonia Dublan, just 175 miles south of the border.
“He's got a great pioneer heritage starting with people that crossed the plains going from Illinois to Utah, and then on from Utah down to Mexico," Leighton Romney told NBC’s Mike Taibbi in an interview to air Monday night on 'Rock Center with Brian Williams.' “So there's a great heritage there of people that had to fight for what they believed in and for people that had to travel to different places and learn different things. I think there's a vast amount of experience that he could draw from there.”
In his public life Mitt Romney has said and written little about his ancestors' history in Mexico. In one oft-repeated quote he said his family left the U.S. for Mexico to escape persecution for their religious beliefs.
In fact, Romney's great grandfather, Miles Park Romney, led that first expedition to escape not persecution but prosecution for polygamy, or what Mormons called ‘plural marriage.’ After polygamy ended, the family remained in Mexico. Mitt Romney's father, George, was born in Colonia Dublan, one of the colonies in northern Mexico that the Romneys settled in after their arrival. His mother, Lenore LaFount Romney, was born in Utah.
When Romney’s father was five years old, the Mexican Revolution broke out and his parents moved back to the United States to avoid the violence. Mitt Romney was eventually born in Michigan. But the other branch of the family – leading down to Romney's cousins Leighton, Mike and Meredith – stayed behind in Mexico, their numbers growing. The Romneys chose to remain in Mexico because they established good lives for themselves and their families there. Most of them are now dual-citizens.
“We certainly have a love for both countries,” adds Leighton. “I can sing both national anthems and tear up at both of them. I think that having two countries that you love and two countries that you can serve or be a beneficiary of their service is a great thing.”
The Romneys living in Mexico are well aware of their wealthy and famous relative’s popularity in the Republican primary race. They support their cousin's candidacy and they hope that Mitt will be more open about the issue of his religion and Mexican heritage during the campaign. It’s a family history they’re proud of, despite the fact that Mitt Romney has never come to visit.
If Romney does get the Republican nod, and the media spotlight of a presidential campaign points south toward Mexico, it will probably land on many of these unknown Romney family nuggets, and on Mormonism itself, the religion shared by Mitt Romney and the cousins he doesn't know. That part is okay with Romney's cousins.
“We're Christians, complete in every sense of the word. I don't think that any candidate for any office would shy away from their religion. I think it's something to stand up and be proud of,” Leighton said.
Editor's note: Mike Taibbi's full report, 'Romney's Roots,' airs Monday, January 9, at 10pm/9c on NBC's 'Rock Center with Brian Williams.'

Thanks for the report. Now I KNOW I want him for president!
whats laughable is mitt romneys distant family fleed to mexico because they werent allowed to multimarry- (poligamy) in the states- the same way the future Mitt Romney sent our jobs overseas with Bain Capital when he couldnt get his way with us policy? The socalled perfect american family runs to the nearest country whenever they dont or cant get their way- yes i think we know where Romney got his allegiance and his flipflopping from!
can you please present us with proof that his family fled in order to commit poligamy. If you are going to level a charge like that against someone you better come up with proof or you are nothing more than a liar and a fraud.
Isn't it funny that Mitt's father, George Romney, was born outside of the U.S., yet tried to run for president. His birth was not an obstacle. Where were the birthers? And Barack Obama was born IN one of the Unites States, yet his place of birth was an issue. Just shows that truth can't overcome hatred and prejudice.
So now ROmney is an Illegal Alien?
omg, a liberal policy may in store here !!!........
Now that everyone knows, Los Zetas have some new kidnapping for ransom targets.
I love it. Mitt Romney is an anchor baby.
Oh my God! Romney is an "anchor" baby! Dual citizenship? How many Mexicans who were born in the U.S.A. are afforded that privilege? Or is it something only wealthy white people can get. Anyone who knows the answer please enlighten me. I realize you can get dual citizenship if your are born to American citizens in the military or in public service abroad. But getting it just for being wealthy? Please someone, enlighten me.
If we use the same rule by which the GOP and tea party racist, morons used on our president wouldn't this mean that Mitt will be a Mexican drug cartel sympathizer? Wont he sell America out to Mexico?
JohnSixty,
Yep, his green backs are wet!
Funny, how the media can investigate and report on everyones backround so thoroughly, except for the Divider in Chief........
lagartija....agreed
Remeber just last week Romney's sons were on the birther issues about President Obama again...what freakin nerve!
yeah right, try reading the story for your proof.
In fact, Romney's great grandfather, Miles Park Romney, led that first expedition to escape not persecution but prosecution for polygamy, or what Mormons called ‘plural marriage.’ After polygamy ended, the family remained in Mexico.
Hey "yeah right" - there's this thing called Google. If you use it to search the Internet, you can verify everything in this article in about 5 minutes. I say "you" but perhaps you could find someone with an ounce of curiosity and a slight facility with a computer to help you. If you don't even do the most cursory examination before accusing others of being liars and frauds than you must be a semi-literate fool. Just saying.
oh, one more issue - it is spelled "polygamy" - there is also this thing called spell check, but that may be too advanced for you yet.......
Are you kidding????
Thousands and thousands of children are born to American citizens beyond the borders of the United States each year... BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS ARE CITIZENS automatically qualifies BY LAW the rights of citizenship to the offspring. Sedom, if NEVER, are they allowed to be citizens in the countries in which they were born!
Yes, George Romney was a US citizen HIS ENTIRE LIFE!
I have lived abroad in my lifetime and when I did, I never relinquished by citizenship and was never granted automatic citizenship in the countries where I lived!!! I had to pay for my VISAs. How about yours???
What is the problem , polygamy, gay marriage, make everything legal and end of the conversation.
True dat! Only when the faux news, repub's or tea party do it is it true!
Birthers, muslim sympathizer, soft on terror, blah blah blah
Hey MSNBC, how are you continually finding all this neat and ancient info on current Conservatives, but found and keep finding nothing on the current sitting President? We still know little of his past. What gives?
The only fraud and liar in this discussion is me! There. I said it. Feels good to get off my chest.
<sarcasm>Illegal Alien until he can provide his long form birth certificate from Michigan and local Michigan newspaper announcements of his birth. </sarcasm>
Oh please, Obama's background, there's (right wing) "media" out there where that's all they do - like a sick obsession
I researched my ancestry a few years ago, and was very surprised by many events. No matter what I found out, good or bad, I love the history and tear up as well. I found family members I never knew existed and did reach out to them. It doesn't mean we will become best friends, or that I will go to visit, but I certainly found my conversations very interesting.
What I guess I love about the Romney family is their size and how they stand by each other. I admit I am a sucker for large families since that was the case with my ancestors, but not for my own personal life. I have known many large families that just had that something extra that comes from the sheer size. I think that is what many Americans found intoxicating about the Kennedys. There was just so many of them always standing with each other through good and bad.
IMO, having a large extended family like Mitt does would be very helpful as president. It is a lonely job. I think the big family theme would allow a nice buffer from a brutal reality for any president.
Hey Skiddy, FAUX PROPAGANDA NEWS has tried for the last several years to find some dirt on Obama and CAN'T. Thats because there isn't any. And don't say that "we know little of his past". How many other Presidents have you seen their birth certificates?
Seriously, Skiddy? Jeez... pick up a book sometime.
A couple of small things that bear tangentially on the discussion:
1) There is nothing illegal about multiple marriages as practiced by modern Mormons. Marriage is a religious rite and the government has no say-so. What is illegal is multiple simultaneous civil unions. This is the government's realm and churches have no say-so. What a Mormon does that keeps him from being charged with polygamy is that a Mormon man marries only one woman in a joint civil/religious ceremony. That marriage is all sound and legal and in accordance with most people's religious beliefs. But any additional wives are married in religious rites only. So the polygamy is only in the eye of the Mormon church where there is no real conflict in beliefs and as far as the government is concerned the man is only in a civil contract with one woman. I know it sounds a bit disengenuous, but there is a distinct difference between marriage and civil union. That is why tens of thousands of Mormons practice polygamy, but only underage or forced marriages (and the sex require to consumate them) are actually prosecuted.
2) There is another technicality involved. Any seminary-trained Christian minister or priest was taught that only religious and sects that accept the Nicene Creed (or a rewording of it that does not change any of the meaning) are actually Christians. Mormons do not accept the Nicene Creed. Catholics, Protestants, Pentecostals, Evangelicals and virtually all others do accept the Nicene Creed (or Apostles' Creed of Profession of Faith) but Mormons do not. The major difference is the beliefs surrounding the 3-in-1 Godhead definition and the Mormon beliefs in ancestral baptism and heavenly admission. I do not believe that most of the ministers and priests currently pointing this out are trying to slander Ropmney or Mormons, but rather feel that this is a difference that they need to make their congregants aware of. To them, acceptance of Mormons as "Christians" would be dangerous because it would allow exceptions that would amount to a "cafeteria" interpretation of the Nicene Creed. (Where you look through the Creed and pick the parts you agree with and ignore the others.)
Neither of these two things are for or against Romney or Mormons. They are simply a complexity to the issues that most people don't stop and think about. Most people get married in a joint religious/civil ceremony and do not stop to think that it is possible to get married in the church and not in the sense of a civil contract. And most people tend to think that anyone who says they believe in Christ but do not stop to think that it is possible to believe in Christ, but also to believe in things that are not Christian or not believe in things that are Christian.
In general, it is a fair statement to make that people do not choose their religion. Your parents choose your religion. This applies whether you are Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Shinto or any other religion. Few people even shift denominations within a religion. So, I never really hold a person's religion against them unless they specifically try to impoise their religious beliefs on me.
1) does this mean Romney will be soft on immigrants, and
2) anyone got a bag of drugs stamped with a big 'R' on it?
Skiddy, if you know little about President Obama's past, it is because you don't want to know. I know much more about President Obama's past than I do about Ex-President Bush's past.
Let me get this straight. Miles Romney, an American citizen, fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution for "plural marriages". That means Romney's grandfather, born in Mexico, was a birthright Mexican, does it not? Romney's father George, born in Mexico, would have been a second generation Mexican. Yet he was a candidate for President of the United States in 1967. I'm confused. How can that be? Wasn't anyone paying attention, or is there something I'm missing here?
Hey, G-E-N-I-U-S! Jimmy Carter was the first president born in a HOSPITAL!!! Presidents before him were born at home. It wasn't unitl around 1900 that "Certified" births began being documented. Prior to that, births were documented by churches, baptismal records, census records, voting registrations etc etc.
Man, you people didn't stay awake in history classes if you even attended them at all!!!
Go to ancestory.com and check for yourself any state, federal or local documentation on your great granpappy's birth. You'll see!!!
WHERE'S HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE!?
Don't worry, the one you are going to show me is false. I know it already.
Maybe he's a Muslin?!@?!?!! :o
This is why if you are a thinking conservative, you have to separate yourselves from the Douchebag Party and those who play pretend Republican.
Look for MSNBC to bring up Romney's Mormon faith in the first few sentences of every article.
They want to keep that little nugget on everybody's mind, because they think in stereotypes. While there are certainly plenty of religious bigots out there, they believe there are enough evangelicals (who would never vote for a Mormon) to sway the election.
Heartlight3...Don't feel bad, GWB does not remember much about his past either !
Gee thanks, MSNBC. You just painted a big bullseye on the backs of Romneys in Mexico for the cartels.
On the other hand, it might help with the hispanci vote. Just like Obama being half black helped with the black vote...and before you say that wasn't a factor, go look at the record turnout of black voters in 2008. I sincerely doubt they voted for McCain...
Oh. That's nice. That still won't get me to ever vote for him, though.
Funny how most of you don't seem to have read the article at all. And for the record, when the Mormon Pioneers settled in Utah it was a territory and not part of the United States. They were not bound by any law regarding marriage. I would appreciate it if any references to Mormon history were actually grounded in fact and not fiction. And Romney's religion should have nothing to do with his candidacy. No one cared about Obama's religious upbringing. And they sure didn't care what church he attended. So, let's stop playing this religious card game.
so very well said chris749391!
Teri
Rezko is one of them. However is not about how much dirt is in the Obama past is about to show who is the real Obama, the Obama that never was introduce to the public, the Obama that vote 100 times present in Illinois , the Obama that belong to a Church for 20 years whose pastor was an antisemitic, friend of Muslim dictators, the Obama that favor a legislation in Illinois that mother was allowed to kill her infant born in a late abortion . Therer are many thing that media do not make public.
Hey Yeah Right? Please learn how to use this blog. You just accused Shepard-4927411 of making unproved accusations. You called this person a liar if they couldn't produce proof. When you click on "Reply" you are responding to the person that started the thread. That person did not make the claims you disagree with. If you can't play by the rules get out!
@kpokeefe
Being a US citizen doesn't qualify you to run for President. Neither does being born to a US citizen, having been a US citizen your entire life, or never having been a citizen of any other country, for that matter.
You have to be BORN IN THE USA to run for President.
That is the sticking point the so-called Birthers have been clinging to since President Obama was elected... and the reason why people are (duly) upset that it was not an issue relating to George.
Lets see if the "liberal" media launchs a slander campaign against him now like they did to Hermain Cain... dividing by race is the Democrats first agenda so natuarally anyone non-white in the opposition party is seen as a huge problem.
Skiddy, you must not know how to read or else don't do so. There are volumes of information in the press about President Obama, much of it responding to turkeys who keep spreading false information about him because they can't accept proven facts. Get a life!
Teri is lost. I would like to know more, not just what your media feeds you.
There's all kinds of information available about Obama's background and history. If you choose not to believe any of it, that's your problem.
Fibi
This is the liberal media , that carry the water for Obama, what do you expect.
Well, at least Mitts relatives, both here and in Mexico are legal. More than we can say for our current Community organizer in Chief, who has an aunt and uncle living in MA ILLEGALLY, on the state Welfare rolls.
Was he born in the usa? Might have to prove this lets see the birth certificate
Well at least he is not from mars like Obama!
I think a much better philosophy is simply to let people live the way they want to live...within reason, of course. Making something "legal" implies one needs a law or regulation to be allowed to live a certain way. This also implies that one's rights emanate from the entity making those laws. But yes, what is the problem? If a man wants to marry a man, or if a woman wants two husbands, it is their business. But we digress...
Life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness!
Chris- If you are talking about the mainstream Mormon church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) that Romney is associated with, they do not practice polygamy. They did in the past, but not anymore. Those who practice polygamy today are part of a separate church called the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints or they practice their polygamy privately. Please be aware of this distinction before you use a generalized term like "Mormons." Those who claim to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and practice polygamy have been excommunicated.
Who cares if they did leave to practice polygamy? First, he doesn't. Second, most of the worlds cultures do practice it. Now that doesn't mean most of the world's populations practice it, but polygamy isn't some oddball practice. Many many many cultures practice it. I only care about what he will do as president, not who his wife is or how many wives he has. That is what I will make my decision based on come election time. If it is a race between him and Obama, I'll weigh both sides, look at the playing field, and vote for whoever I feel will do me and my country the least harm.
they didn't say which one of the Romney's dug the tunnel?
we can't let these baby anchors take over the WhiteHouse.
someone call the INS please.
If you took all the birthers and put them together you would have a hard time making one complete, functioning brain CELL.
They know nothing and want to know nothing that contradicts their know nothing beliefs.
Floridamom it just doesn't change the fact that Joseph Smith, your churches' founder was into polygamy. You've cleaned it up since then but it all comes from the same place.
You can't get away from it.
skate8 you are wrong.....McCain wasnt born on what is technically US soil, he was born in a US territory to US citizens....
You cannot be a "naturalized" citizen to be POTUS, only a natural born can be...
THAT MEANS BORN IN COUNTRY OR DEPENDING ON WHAT YEAR BORN, TO ONE OR MORE NATURAL CITIZENS
Persons born abroad before May 24, 1934 to a US citizen father who had resided
in the US at any point before the birth are considered US citizens at
birth. The status of the mother did not
matter unless the child was born out of wedlock. There were numerous legal challenges to this
rule, claiming that it violates equal protection by treating the children born
to US citizen women different than those born to US citizen men. The issue was never fully resolved by the
courts, but in 1994, Congress passed a law retroactively granting citizenship at
birth to children born abroad to US citizen women.
In 1940, Congress passed a law making illegitimate children born abroad to US
citizen women citizens if the mother had resided in the US. However, under this law, if the child was
legitimated by the foreign national father before his or her eighteenth
birthday, the child would not be considered a citizen. In 1998, the Supreme Court issued an opinion
upholding the requirement that a child born out of wedlock to a US citizen woman
be legitimated before his or her eighteenth birthday. The decision was reaffirmed in the 2001 US
Supreme Court decision Nguyen v. INS which held that differing requirements for
out-of-wedlock children of US citizen men versus US citizen women are
constitutions.
The US citizen parent must have resided in the US
prior to the birth. This residence can
be in the US itself, or in certain US territories after certain dates. The residence can have been while the parent
was a minor, and there is no length of time for which the parent must have
resided in the US
In 1934, Congress passed a law allowing US citizen parents, regardless of their
gender, to pass citizenship to their children born abroad. If both parents were citizens, only one was
required to have resided in the US, and as with the previous law, there was no
required length of time that the parent must have resided in the US.
However, if one parent was a US citizen and the other a foreign
national, the child would lose their citizenship if they did not either reside
in the US for the five years immediately prior to their eighteenth birthday or,
within six months of turning 21, take an oath of allegiance to the US. These requirements were gradually relaxed
between 1934 and 1940.
Illegitimate children born aboard between 1934 and
1941 became citizens under the general provision, and because the child was
considered to have only one parent, no requirements were imposed that could
resulAs before, children born abroad to two US citizens, with one parent having
resided in the US, the child was a US citizen at birth. No further action was required to maintain
citizenship.
When one parent was a citizen and the other a foreign
national, however, the rules changed substantially. To pass citizenship, the citizen parent must
have resided in the US for at least 10 years before the birth of the child, and
at least five of those years had to be after the parent turned 16. Because this rule made it impossible for
parents under 21 to pass citizenship, in 1946 the requirement was amended to
create an exception for parents who had served in World War Two.
Originally, for children born during this period to retain US
citizenship, they had to reside in the US for five years between the age of 13
and 21. However, an exception was made
for children of US citizens who were employed abroad by the US government or a
US company.
Children born out of wedlock to a US citizen mother who met
the residence requirements were automatically citizens, and they retained US
citizenship even if legitimated by the foreign national father. For a child born out of wedlock to a US
citizen father, to obtain US citizenship the child must have been legitimated
before the age of 21.t in the loss of citizenship.
You're being sarcastic, right?
Mitt Romney gets a free pass on religion (and I'm okay with that) in a way that John Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama never did. Not to mention Alf Landon or other candidates.
Even Richard Nixon got a harder look for being a Quaker than Romney gets for being Mormon. As for Romney's religion being a story line, ho hum.
John McCain was born on August 29, 1936 at Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone, to naval officer John S. McCain, Jr. (1911–1981) and Roberta (Wright) McCain (b. 1912).[2] At that time, the Panama Canal was under U.S. control
Chris74, Interesting interpreation on polygomy, but what you do not understand is that thousands of Mormons do not practice polygomy, not for a hundred years now. The ones that do practice polygomy belong to a break off religion from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or LDS Church. Members of the LDS church who are called Mormons, do not practice polygomy, period. It is part of the past just like the inquisition is part of the past of the Catholic Church. And as far as not being Christian, it is true that we do not believe in the Nicene Creed, but we do believe that Jesus Christ is our savior and redeemer the same as any Christian. If those whose who don't believe in the Nicene Creed are not Christian, does that mean that Peter, James and John and the early saints were not Christians? The Nicene Creed was written hundreds of years after Christ and the Apostles lived, by a committee. There are plenty of differences between all religions and the Nicene Creed separates us from the rest, but I still believe in the same Jesus Christ that is described in the New Testement and I try to follow his teachings. That should not be held against me.
Are you friggin' kidding me? Dude, it's only been 3 years. Have you already forgotten about the Jermiah Wright (sp?) thing? Or are you already trying to spin this?
I am stymied by the lengths that the MSM seems to be going to make SURE that Romney is the republican nominee. While they produce one "hit piece" after another on all of the other candidates, it's been virtually "hands off" for Romney. Now, with this article, they've started producing pieces to help him out with gaining even more momentum. I have to wonder why....
One possible reason is that they already have a plan to dispose of Romney. Ammunition that they haven't used yet and are just holding. Something to ensure that the American people see him as clearly a bad choice. Some possible things I've heard are (a) starting to write extensively about some of the strange beliefs of the mormon church to paint him as a nutjob (and there are some strange beliefs) or (b) The fact that he hasn't released his tax returns, makes millions and millions, and pays virtually no taxes (essentially making him the poster-boy of the 1-percenters.)
The other reason I can come up with is that the one thing liberals fear more than Obama losing in 2012 is that a true conservative would win. They can't STAND the thought of conservative principles being implemented, and by endorsing and cheering for Romney over the other candidates, they help ensure that no matter who is elected, it will NOT be a tea-party conservative. Maybe after the performance of the last 3 years, many of them are even secretly hoping for a change, and Romney represents the best republican alternative to Obama.
Whatever the reason, it seems clear that the mainstream media is clearly in the tank for Romney, and doing whatever they can to help ensure that he gets the nomination.
Duel citizenship is not a good thing! it just means the act of removal of the old citizenship never took place. So citizenship is cheap, and means something to only a few that WORKED hard for their's, a Vietnamese boat person,an Iron curtain escapee, thousands of displaced persons after WWII, and of course the many legal immigrants from all over the world that have come here looking for the hope, and promise of America. Well to me duel citizenship is wrong, and cheap theatrics's that make some people think they are important when their not just haven't torn up the old one.
WOW...This might pizz off Obama. After all the work Obama did kissing up to the illegal Hispanics, now THIS! Seems the fox may have raided Obama's chicken coop. Hahahahahahahahaha

Markl323 (#1.52), which tunnels - the ones going into Mexico, or out of Mexico? (Oh, yeah, I forgot. Tunnels can be 2-way, regardless of the nationality of those traversing them. So, be advised: unless the tunnels are large enough, there might be a problem for the people leaving the US because they're fed up running head-on into those entering the US for a better life).
Lets get The Donald to investigate.
A thought on the Religious Test of a Presidential Candidate:
While I do understand and support our U.S. Constitution's prohibitory declaration of a "religious test" of any candidate for public office, I think that an open and honest conversation about a person's fitness for office based on their belief system is appropriate here. I know that many would argue that there is not a continuum of crazy within the religious cornucopia we harbor here in America, but that's just not true.
While "mainstream" religions have their share of magical thinking (resurrection, walking on water, water to wine etc), Mormonism takes it to the next level and should be categorized alongside Scientology and the like. Joseph Smith was a con-artist and a charlatan who duped people into giving him all their money and letting him sleep with their wives and daughters while wearing "magic underwear". The more you learn about this ridiculous belief system, the more you have to ask if an adherent of Mormonism is really fit for office. I certainly wouldn't vote for anyone that believes in this brand of crazy and neither should you. I think it's OK to say that, if you choose to abandon rational thinking, and believe all this crazy stuff, then I don't want you having access to "The Button" or any other national decision of consequence.
Romney is a Mexican, and O'bama is Irish! What a fight this is going to be!
Sorry to say, but of the un-Romneys, Rick Perry is a no-brainer (literally). Michelle Bachmann (my first choice) has thrown in the towel...too bad. Newt Gingrich is the Republican Bill Clinton, being more the polygamist (serially) than Romney the Mormon. Ron Paul means well but he'd never get the job done...he couldn't lead a troop of cub scouts to a candy store (although I suspect he might be successful as governor of Idaho).
That leaves Rick Santorum. By the way, as more evidence of media bias to ensure Romney gets to be their punching-bag Republican nominee (in a long line of media-designated punching-bags, including Ford, Dole, and McCain), consider how people are falling all over themselves to coronate Romney after his 8-vote "victory"---a pyrrhic victory if there ever was one) over Santorum.
I will vote for any Republican nominee over Obama. I would vote for a rotten cabbage over Obama. But if Romney is the nominee, I will stay home. Makes absolutely no sense to try to unseat the author of Obamacare with the son-of-a-bitch who invented it.
Another anchor baby makes good.
Completely untrue. I am happily married and required no religion whatsoever to accomplish it. I did require a STATE issued licence and the ceremony had to be performed by a STATE authorized representative (of the state) and at the end they said "by the power vested in me by the STATE of _____— I now pronounce you man and wife".
Religion has no authority to legally marry anyone unless the state authorizes them to perform the ceremony. Without a state issued licence, it's not a legal marriage.
Not all states even have civil unions...but for those that do, I imagine more than one at one time would be considered illegal.
Marriage is also a government allocated right. Otherwise gay marriage would be perfectly legal in any state, so long as they had a religion that allowed it.
You mean in a legal marriage.
So those women are not legally married and have absolutely no legal marital rights. Nice.
You think? Also pretty handy for the guy who doesn't have any legal obligations to these "extra" women.
Yes....there is. But there is no difference between marriage and marriage. Marriage is a state authorized institution. Religion is only an optional trimming.
That isn't polgamy...that's one legal marriage and a bunch of live in mistresses with no legal standing whatsoever. If adult women are stupid enough to consent to such a relationship, that's their business...there is no law against it.
Why not...he doesnt look the part? We are sooo damn gullible hehe. Pick the freshest face, smoothest talker....what has that gotten us? Well, Eddie Haskel, thats what!!! Its our own damn fault that we are all so damn collectively stupid!!
LMAO at the republican fruit cakes who think Obama is being spared in the media... I remember all the issues republicans pushed for.
What happened was republicans embarrassed themselves massively, and continue to look like fools daily as they cling to the biggest amount of BS FAUX news or Glenn beck or Rush Limbaugh can feed these simple minded folk
True Kornfed.
Dan says:
The last sentence is literally true, but the implication that this makes McCain a native-born citizen is incorrect:
This means that McCain was not born on US soil and was not a citizen at the time of his birth. However, since Romney's father ran for president (and he definitely was not born on US soil), we probably already know that the point is moot.
Yes, I am using Wikipedia, and I know that's not the best source--but this is still correct information and I am lazy today. The point is that McCain is not, if you want to be really picky, a "native born" US citizen. The US Constitution does not grant citizenship by way of a person having one parent who is/was a citizen, though the Congress has granted it under certain conditions. We do not have "blood line" citizenship in the US.
Let Us Look Here -
The best bet now looks to be Santorum, the others are out for various reasons, who is left? Paul and Santorum after this there is no way Romney, I would think, can be elected even if he wins the nomination. Why did he hold back on this very personal and important fact of his family? He should have had this upfront than to have this come out now...poor sense of timing at best.
What a sad state of affairs..........is he really an "anchor baby"? we should at least look at his birth certificate, all of them should provide the public just as the President did his papers, now lets see your papers!!!!!!!!
They only know lunacy so lets follow suit....lets see your papers!!!!
Doesn't Santorum's wife work for Sachs also? LOL
This article fails to clearly state polygamy ended in Utah not in Mexico -
"he said his family left the U.S. for Mexico to escape persecution for their religious beliefs.
In fact, Romney's great grandfather, Miles Park Romney, led that first expedition to escape not persecution but prosecution for polygamy, or what Mormons called ‘plural marriage."...from the article.
To me a beastly cult disguising their worship of Pedophilia as a religion ans not paying taxes but bringing in million upon million cheating the tax-payer and not paying their fair share. Again this relation of church and state the elite status of no taxation for religious groups it never ends.
The money buys the legislation and lax enforcement of existing laws but I guess this renegade state gets a pass again. This Paul I read speaks and is well paid to speak to the John Birch Society and others of their ilk and always for a fat fee the same applies to the others but Paul is a favorite of the Birchers...why is this never spoken of?
Hey republiklans... This is called karma. I remember any time I questioned the motives of Reagan or both bush;s I was always sternly directed to have some respect for the office. (when GOP occupied) and you all went apesh@ over Obama's citizenship even last week there was still grumbling about that Kenyon who wants to make us all Muslims. Hell this week when he appointed his boy without congressional interference all the right could say is oh we are officially Korea now! Lions and Tigers and Bears oh my!!! If your party was as organized in truth and honesty as it is in false floors and partisan hackery. You would never lose an election. Ever! Instead you have to engage in fraud and voter disinfranchization and still lose, so you steal them. This is what happens when you put your party before your country. This would be a non issue were it not for the "birthers" and the "Tea party" by the way you are aware the original tea party in Boston the members dressed up as native Americans in case it wasn't well received by the public they could blame it on the red man. Pretty similar to today's jartard party... Karma is a bitch and it is rarely so instantaneous. Musta pissed off somebody big this time...
SSSPINNNNNNNN..... So conversely, people NOT associated by nationality with a candidate who is trying to get votes by "being one of them", should be upset that he is not one of them, (those not associated) and NOT vote for him?
Like kornfed stated above, youz guyz are crazy for not voting for the candidate that would do the best job because of looks, religion, political party, whatever. Just think of how many past presidents would never make it to the presidency because of how they looked. The two major parties own your feeble brains.
Donkeyhoty. What's up feisty? New name /new year / new paycheck?
NotKidding #1.71 I don't know why you even bothered to "contradict" the person who posted about polygamy. What you were saying in your post was pretty much the same thing he/she was saying - even as you were trying to contradict. Polygamy IS marrying one person legally and the othersare all religious ceremonies that are not legal. That is polygamy or plural marriage,at least it is the way they do it now. The only time they run into problems is when they do actually do a "legal marriage" or "civil union" for any of the following marriages. Those that are polygamists or have plural marriages believe in the life style and their faith and as such (for the most part) the marriages are taken very seriously-even when they are not "legal" and only religious ceremonies.
If people bothered to learn some about the faith, they would not be so prejudice and judgemental. I do know some about Mormons, because I read, listen and learn. Just as I know about several other faiths including Native American faiths(prior to being converted to Christianity). However, I know absolutely nothing about Muslim faith, so I would not even try to "contradict" something that someone that knows about the faith says. Maybe you should try the same thing, since you do not seem to know or understand the Mormon faith or Polygamy/Plural Marriages. And no, I am not Mormon, I am Christian with a strong Wicca tendency!
i want to see his birth certificate!!!!!!!!
beanathome...wrong...
In 1940, Congress
passed a law making illegitimate children born abroad to US citizen women
citizens if the mother had resided in the US.
However, under this law, if the child was legitimated by the foreign
national father before his or her eighteenth birthday, the child would not be
considered a citizen. In 1998, the
Supreme Court issued an opinion upholding the requirement that a child born out
of wedlock to a US citizen woman be legitimated before his or her eighteenth
birthday. The decision was reaffirmed in
the 2001 US Supreme Court decision Nguyen v. INS which held that differing requirements for
out-of-wedlock children of US citizen men versus US citizen women are
constitutions.
The US citizen parent must have resided in the US
prior to the birth. This residence can
be in the US itself, or in certain US territories after certain dates. The residence can have been while the parent
was a minor, and there is no length of time for which the parent must have
resided in the US.
OR
Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in the gaps left by the Constitution. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are "citizens of the United States at birth:"
Seriously, Dred. Are you basically saying that only foreigners should have dual citizenship? How lame is that? If you qualify, you qualify. It's that simple.
You sound a bit jealous!
Is there some reason that having ancestors from Mexico should be a problem for Romney? Many people have grandparents and beyond that came from outside of the US, duh. Who cares? Small potatoes compared with his other issues!
Mitt Romney = Mexican-American. Will he get 90% of the Hispanic vote because of that?
Even at that, he won't Beat Obooboo.
I think you guys need to draw the distinction between being a US citizen and being eligible for the presidency. While a President is always a US citizen, not all US citizens can be presidents. Only natural born, those born on US soil, can have the top office. For example, I'm a US citizen by naturalization (born overseas) but I can't ever run for President.
beanathome, Dan's right on blood citizenship. You can "naturally" gain US citizenship by birth or blood. By being born on US soil or being the child of a US citizen.
Exactly as posted prior to me two cents worth.
Not just the Tea pansies and Birthers
But some repug candidates themselves, Teddy Turnabout and others showed absolute disrespect for the office itself of the presidency, whether it was Obama in the chair or not, total lack of maturity and genuine common sense, when the trash was spreading around about the President's so called questionable citizenship.
Where's the duality here, as we have direct correlation to a birth by a non-citizen father and receiving not a right but privilege of being called an American merely because you pooped out of the womb on US soil. Was his father even here LEGALLY when he was born, or was he one of the 12 million illegals, lets get the bandwagon rolling. The very law itself is now and has been in question of illegal residents being able to claim citizenship for their children born on in the US.
But the truth is, if you cannot run for the presidency without having to use gossip and lies to promote yourself for the seat, you don't need to run. You are not worthy of the office.
Vision of the future with Romney as President:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45900038/ns/business-us_business/#.TweBIUdNZ-0
So he has never even met or visited his family south of the border, and now that it might be useful (to gain that demographic's vote), suddenly they are part of his heritage and history? That's called exploitation and it's just shameful. Yeah, Romney, the proud Mexican....right.
so l4ugher, what's the problem ?? Those are the same people who were the top contributors to Obama. They've lost hope and changed their minds.
Hey Donkey , how long have you been brainwashed and where do you get your propaganda?
Cut it out, RetREMF-. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Not restoring collapsed if-then insults or 'why didn't you cover this?' derails.

Hmmmmm
What's even more laughable is the long list of "multimarriages" in the Barrack Hussein clan.
For your reading enjoyment:
conservativedailynews.com/2011/04/obamas-polygamist-dilemma-its-not-just-heather-who-has-two-mommies/
I couldn't care less about polygamy....my objection was the lie that marriage is a religious institution.
Not quite the same...he/she referred to all of the "unions" as marriages...they aren't. Only the state can authorize a marriage. No religion can perform a marriage without the state's authorization. So it wasn't polygamy...it was a bunch of women living with a married couple and having sex with the woman's husband.
There is only one marriage there...so no...it's not polygamy.
So when they actually try and commit polygamy instead of just a man, his wife, and his mistresses?
Fine...except they aren't marriages. They are religiously sanctioned adulterous unions. If that's what they want to do and they are all adults, then let them. I just take issue with fiction that they are marriages....and the only reason I care is because I'm sick and tired of religion trying to move in and steal a social institution that has been around long before any religion...and impose their whacked out rules on it.
Well...aren't you special? I can read too. I disagree that the more you learn about a religion, the less judgmental you become...without exception every religion is laughable at it's core.
I didn't contradict anything about their faith. I couldn't care less about their faith. I contradicted the lie that the church can perform marriages without state authorization. Those aren't marriages. They are mistresses.
It doesn't matter to me what you are. All religions are equally strange.
As far as mormonism is concerned...they lost any hope of respect from me when they used their "charitable donations" to try and influence an election result in another state in order to hatefully withhold rights from others. That...and the magic underwear. Right up there with talking snakes and virgin births...too freaking bizarro to take seriously.
Thanks, Not Kidding. Your responses were very clear and shouldn't have confused anyone. My favorite line, I think, is "It doesn't matter to me what you are. All religions are equally strange."
Aside from the the obvious dehumanization that goes along with polygamy, anyone who has watched any portion of "Sister Wives" on TLC has all the information they need to condemn polygamy. How any of those women can look at that egomaniacal boyfriend of theirs and take him seriously, well, I digress.
@RetREMF There is a difference between propaganda and reality. I don't get my facts from the same place all the time, and you should try that out. I am not the one who is dictating my own actions based on a party playbook. Here is yours. Start with a non factual partisan exaggeration followed by a disingenuous well wishing (Unless your identity is unknown then skip option B) then attempt to insult the other person by describing yourself... You guys really need a new playbook, your as predictable and entertaining as the drying of paint. See the brainwashed always accuse the opposite of being brainwashed, that way they don't have to deal with all the mental soap scum that goes with that affliction. Good luck with your issue's.
I don't recall seeing (in the article) if Mr. Romney is a Dual Citizen? It is my understanding that a person holding Dual Citizenship cannot be President. Was it his Father that held Dual Citizenship? Confusing.
I'm sorry, I don't get it folks! I've heard Romney attacked here because of his religion, and contributors (all of whom have contributed anywhere from a couple of dollars to a couple of hundred thousand dollars; and completely within federal contribution guidelines). However, no one mentions Democrat contributors like George Soros who contributed Millions to Obama's Campaign in 2008, and is lined up to do the same again. In fact, to refresh a few memories, in 2008 the FEC (Federal Elections Commission), federal watchdog ensuring Presidential candidates, declare and maintain contribution limits and guidelines repeatedly censored and challenged Obama Democratic questionable contributions and the Obama Campaign refused to divulge where the multi-million dollars contributors, and what appeared to be major contributions from outside the U.S., were coming from. That is public record, and was challenged by the FEC and ignored by the Obama Campaign. So, for Obama supporters to be decrying acceptable Romney contributions is simply a case of "the pot calling the kettle black"; talk about a double standard.
Additionally, isn't it about time everyone got off the "Mormon" kick? We've had President's of all major religions in the White House. We have members of every faith in various political positions and military position in Congress and the Pentagon, INCLUDING MORMONS. What's next? Decrying Jehovah's Witness, Scientology's, Assembly of God, Pentecostal, or taking on the "Big Religious Faiths" Catholics, Baptists and Jews?
I've read nothing in the Constitution that regulates what faith a President or Vice President must be, in order to become a Candidate for President or Vice President. If our founding fathers believed in religious freedom to that extent...WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM!
However, once more this is Obama/Democrat Supporters pulling a "double standard". Let me remind you of a few recent "Obama Moments". Obama openly announced to Egyptian Foreign Minister Gheiet in June 2010, that he was a practicing Muslim. These statements were openly published in Middle East and European News Media, and hushed up by the American News Media.
It's not the Muslim Religion that bothers me; it's Obama's lying to Americans and members of his own Democratic Party, and manipulative use of "Christianity Faith"; to become and maintain his presidency. When was the last time the media covered the Obama's attending a Sunday Christian Church service regularly?
Based on faith, there is a real difference between Obama and Romney. Obama uses his membership in the "Christian Faith" as a manipulative tool to obtain and maintain his presidency; while silently still adhering to his Muslim beliefs. On the other hand, Romney, has always openly stated, "This is who I am, this is what I believe, now let's get back to work!" Personally, I don't care what Church Romney goes to on Sunday; just as long as Romney is back to work cleaning up Obama's political mess on Monday!"
Obama, he BOWS DOWN to leaders of other countries, like Saudi Arabia King and Japan President; and has openly stated his embarrassment of America in overseas public statements. Let me drive home the significance of these issues. The Saudi Arabia King is not just the leader of his country; he is also head of the Muslim Faith in his country. This act of bowing wasn't just politically motivated; it was also faith based motivated. These acts of bowing by a President of the United States, to leaders of "Equal Stature"; in the World is unacceptable and places America in a "subservient position". It's isn't a matter of just showing respect; if that were the case, why didn't Obama "Bow Down" to the Queen of England when they were introduced?
No folks, everything I've seen and heard regarding Romney shows Romney puts "words into actions"; Romney isn't afraid of being held accountable to Congress and the American People " for his campaign promises"; Romney appears to a strong ethical and leadership foundation; Romney wants big government to back off with state and local governments, once again, handling issues affecting citizens in their areas (Constitutionally speaking, the Federal Governments roll is to ensure our Federal Laws and Constitution is adhered to; not control the daily lives of each citizen); and Romney genuinely loves America and the American People.
No wonder the Obama Campaign and supporters are running scared! It appears Romney is the LAST PERSON; Barack Obama wants to meet in a Presidential Debate or on the Campaign Trail... 2012 is going to be an interesting year.... :)

ronzwyf....
one of the BIGGER GOP sheepletards
all i want is you to post a link where Obama said he was a practicing Muslim
Mitt you will never be president. You do not have what it takes. You are NOT presidental in your words, mannerisms and speaking. You have no chance against Barack
Exactly. He is a tall, anglo-saxon male who thinks his kind is better than the rest of the world, wants to make wars, hates the poor, made his millions putting others out of work, and has nothing to say other than putting down Obama. He shouldn't be anywhere near the Presidency. He'll only give Wall Street trillions while making others lose their homes.
And Bammy has done what now?
Please remind us .... follow in brother Bush's footsteps is about all I can see, plus the non stop re election campaign from the first day of office
I wouldn't worry Leroy - thanks to the Obama administration's policies and practices most of the folks who were going to lose their homes have already done so.
TkaBrake,
Wasn't following in Wannabe's footsteps enough. Everywhere he stepped turned to $hit!
I don't know, now that Mitt Romney is a Mexican-American, he may get much of the Latino vote. I always wondered why he had such great hair. He's Mexican.
Ok, "Leroy," you don't like Romney, but you don't have to use racial stereotyping to describe him.
Whoops!
There--fixed it for ya.
Obama has no plan for reelection other than blame Bush for his failure, no more hope and change. Where are the promises for a better future or Bush is still the president, because so far everything is someone else fault?
We need someone that assume the good and bad of the counntry and take us to the wrong direction. There is no job where the person is hired to do a better job than his predecessor and blame his predecessor for his failure, this is inadmissible. YOU ARE FIRED
Even the democrats concede that Mitt is very qualified for the job. Obama was a community organizer, and was a junior senator. That is a very thin resume.
Having Mexican desendants might just work against him with all the backlash going around about the growing Latino population in this country.
Romney is the best flip-flopper known to mankind. He's on your side when the political winds blow his way and immediately changes tunes the minute the wind shifts. What a joke.
Is Romney even a legal citizen? I doubt it. Was he born in Mexico like his father? I'd speculate he was born in Mexico and has a forged Birth Certificate.
The "birther's, Tea Bagger's and Donald Trump will go berserk" on this issue.
Romney will never become president.
RedV - you know that when Bush left office we were losing 750,000+ jobs a month, right? Do you know how many we're losing three years later? Any clues?
Theboys - what job has Mittens held in the past 4 years (other than that last failed run for the presidency)? You know that off-shoring American jobs for profit is not a qualification for the job, right?
I was raised in the Mormon church but have been an atheist since it was my choice to make. We actually had a Romney for our bishop. (I must say they were the nicest people).
If the women of America had a clear understanding of how Mormons treat women, they would not vote for a Mormon (unless they like being treated like second class citizens).
They were trying to appear more hip by the time I left and would allow women to give the prayers, but the message was always "The woman's place is in the home". Women are still not allowed to hold the priesthood and must depend on their husband giving a secret code name in order to get into heaven. You gotta be kidding. Women still buy this crap? You would have to be sadistic.
Black people could be baptized then, but could not hold the priesthood. This happened within my lifetime. Mormons are still that backwards and have a heck of a time explaining why the all knowing God suddenly changed his mind on these issues. Did God suddenly become politically correct? And lets face it, anyone who believes Joseph Smith's jive azz talk is just crazy. The man was a typical cult leader. Polygamy is a cult behavior.
Mitt Romney was born into Mormonism. To not be a Mormon would be too foreign to him. It's part of his DNA. Mormons are brainwashed from birth and are encouraged to only marry other Mormons. That way, the brainwashing continues.
Women of America better smarten up. Religion is a tool that was created by men to control women. There are other reasons too, and they all have to do with some kind of narcissism.
Those who are anti-intellectual use religion as a shield when they don't know what they are talking about. Bachmann, Perry, Santorum are prime examples. Romney doesn't flaunt his Mormonism/Christianity and he shouldn't. His previous pro-choice stance probably got him in trouble with the church but he's rich and Mormons are money sluts. However, the Mormons will back Romney just for the PR. Let's face it, there are cracks showing in the Osmond family so the Mormons could really use a new hero.
Don't know why you folks want to keep comparing Obama to Bush. You're not setting the bar too high with either of them.
They are the two worst presidents of the modern era...no offense Jimmy Carter.
Elkmeadow
Obama has been in office for how long now? I think it's safe to start putting some of the blame on Obama as well.
Sometimes I think 10 years from now, homeless 20 years old will be blaming Bush for their misfortune. =/

He has accomplished much in spite of the blatent obstructionism in the GOP working like crazy to stop him. What have you accomplished lately?
Hey Marinmom, I am a mormon wife and I have never been treated as a second class citizen ever. I do not play second fiddle to my husband, he does not have multiple wives, and I have held positions of authority in the church. I don't know where you get your information or what one individual practiced unrighteous dominion over his family to give you that impression, but my ward is full of strong, outspoken women who do not take a back seat to their husbands. So, please don't speak about things you have no knowledge of.
I managed to cut a paste a bunch of "accomplishments" that did nothing to improve the economy....no, wait....that was you.
If Mitt starts selling out Americans for illegal immigrants the way Obama has he can kiss the nomination goodbye.
tkabrake: There are pages and pages of things that President Obama has done since being elected, but most people like yourself would find it hard to believe because you don't WANT to believe it.
VMc2: Sorry your remark is unfounded and incorrect. If it wasnt for the policies of the Obama administration we and many others would have already lost our homes. He is not the problem, he inherited the problem.
He has been in office for over 3 years/unemployment has consistantly nation wide gone down in those 3 yrs. 1st yr of office: 10.7% 2nd yr in office aprox 9% 3rd year in office aprox 8% and the news reports it has dropped again today.
Please dont make statements like this with out facts, it just makes you look foolish.
I assume you don't live in Utah, floridamom1. Things are different there.
Didi, The pages and pages of stuff I've seen were things he has done, but I wouldn't call them "accomplishments," unless you think bringing down the country is an accomplishment.
Ronacrone,
Impresive record, but Obama best achievement.
15 trillions on debt
Set the record of 3 trillions of debt in three years.
Marinmom-- "Mormons are money sluts," "anti-intellectuals use religion as a shield," "[r]eligion is a tool that was created by men to control women,""polygamy is a cult behavior," and Mormons treat their women as second class citizens. Wow!
Although you obviously have unresolved issues that might benefit from counseling, Islam may be many things but it is not generally recognized as a cult and it recognizes the Abrahamic tradition of multiple wives. Also, the oldest women's organization in the U.S. is the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka "Mormons") and women hold leadership positions within the church and sit on the stand with the other male leaders during the general conferences that are held. You obviously have no contact with ordinary LDS women because they are uniformly intelligent and very involved in their communities and have a great deal of influence within the Mormon church.
If your issue is the lack of priesthood, you are free to make it a deal killer (since you are antagonistic to religion in general anyway). I will point out that God only allowed the members of the tribe of Levi to officiate in temple ordinances despite the fact that they were only one tribe of the covenant people descending from Abraham. In other word, God only permitted certain members of the chosen people to perform priesthood ordinances but I have never heard anyone claim that God hates everyone but Levites.
It is ironic that you would describe your experience with Bishop Romney and his family as the "nicest people" while also describing them as "money sluts," the husband treated his wife as a second class citizen, and she was weak and uneducated to allow this alleged mistreatment to occur. Whatever personal issues you may have, you may want to try and resolve them. Life is to short to carry such bitterness and hatred.
Floridamom, do women hold the priesthood in the Mormon church? No? I didn't think so.
I grew up in the church. Are you going to sit there and tell me I don't know anything about it? I had to go to Seminary or my parents wouldn't let me drive.
I'm glad you and the other "strong" (AKA brainwashed) women of your ward think you have a say. I have seen religious women turn the tables and use religion to control their families. I have to say that even though it is still sick, it is quite a departure from polygamy. However, the fact remains that Joseph Smith was a con man and nothing more. You are just too brainwashed at relief society meetings to know this.
As to what Mormons believe, there is a lot more than meets the eye. For a brief description you can read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormons
For the LDS view of themselves you can read:
http://mormon.org/about-us?gclid=CMjooaCIvK0CFUqb7QodJxu8AQ
And of course, the view of LDS detractors (I chose one that was not particularly rabid):
http://listverse.com/2008/02/04/top-10-bizarre-mormon-beliefs/
Without advocating for it or against it, here is a pretty typical sort of thing that many Christian ministers feel compelled to communicate to theor congregations:
http://www.tbm.org/are_mormons_christians.htm
I honestly do not believe that there are any bad players in this controversy. People are born into the LDS Church just as they are born into the Hindu religion. No matter what the religion, people are free to extract the good, emphasize only the bad, a mixture of both, or to disregard the theology altogether. That is their choice. I am sure there are plenty of Mormons with good hearts who believe that they are no more or less Christian than anyone else who self-identifies as Christian.
Oh i get it...since his family is white, their desire to cross a boarder into a foreign land and plop babies down and create a community = PIONEERS.
when non-white people do it, they are freeloaders dropping anchor babies.
so hard to keep up with the different lingo to describe the same activity between races.
I did not know about Mitt's Mexican connection, good to know; having been in Mexico many times, I always wondered why there were so many Mormon community's in Mexico; when you think about it it does make sense that many moved to Mexico from Utah during the long battles between the different factions in Utah.
Romney is disliked by the far right, Romney is disliked by the far left; Romney will make a damn good president.
Doug this is hate speech.
Agree in your comment Chris and I believe Romney is one of the good ones , not for nothing he was elected Governor of Massachusetts and did well in the "blue" State
Ronacrone: Bills that capitalize on playing up stereotyped divisions based on gender, race and sexuality; others that look like corporate and individual welfare, and one that outlaws stepping on mice. I suppose that's mission accompished for you.
What happened to separation of church and state??? And to Ronacrone---And check out everyone of those so called accomplishments that you listed and tell me he is not leading us toward a bankrupt country along with all of the European countries who have adopted a form of socialism like the one we are being led into by this administration and all of the Obama accomplishments. Is that what we want? We do need to elect a president who will continue to defend the freedom that we have fought and died for. The freedom that we have enjoyed and the freedom that has drawn people from around the world. The freedom to practice any religion and the freedom to become whatever you aspire to whether it be financial wealth, or religious freedom or anything else that you want to be or do without government interance. Please keep that in mind everytime you want the govenment to give you anything. There is a loss of freedom everytime something is provided by someone else. Nothing is free without obligation to the ones who provided it. Everything free is taken from someone who did not give freely when it comes to free things provided by the government. Those who had it taken away from them also have rights and are going to have something to say sooner or later. Redistribution of wealth takes away freedom.
REDVIRGINIA GOP SHEEPLE EXTRODINAIRE
The writer of the letter “Obama multiplies US debt” (Dec. 30), asserts many things, few of them fact based. First he claims that during Bush’s two terms average annual budget deficits of $304 billion. In actuality, the average Bush deficit was about $630 billion. Next he asserts, accurately, that it was not until President Obama took office in 2009 that the budget deficit exceeded $1.4 trillion. But what he omits is that the FY 2009 budget deficit was passed in 2008, and that the Congressional Budget Office projected on January 8, 2009 – two weeks before Obama took office – a FY 2009 budget deficit of $1.2 trillion. But the most glaring omission is his failure to note the increase in the national debt 2001- 2009. In January 2001 Bush took office with a $5.7 trillion national debt and a FY 2001 (Clinton’s last budget) SURPLUS of almost $200 billion. When Bush left office, the national debt in January 2009 was $10.8 trillion and he gets full credit for the $1.42 trillion FY 2009 budget deficit culminating in October 2009 in a $12.3 trillion national debt. Effectively, the Bush Administration 2001-FY 2009 increased the national debt $6.5 trillion+, more than all previous administrations combined. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they are not entitled to their own set of facts. The failure of Republican fiscal policy, particularly the old failed theory of trickle down re-labeled ‘job creation’ delivered again, as it did in the ’80s and ’90s, market crashes and recessions. But this time the Republicans did a heckuva job.
THEN there is the FACT that you dont magically get out of a recession more like a depression by prayer or trickle down, YOU SPEND OUT OF IT...
Not MY FACT just A FACT.....
So you GOP sheeple should actually do you own homework as to what REALLY HAPPENED, but i wont hold my breath that you will
Are you referring to Obama's constant "presidential" tearing down of all he disagrees with, him telling us that he had visited 57 states (with just a few more to go) or his recommendation to get Jimmie a breathalyzer for his asthma? If the media had not been as kind to this president has they have been nasty to his opponents, he would appear no smarter or presidential than anyone else. Come to think of it, I can't think of another president we've ever had who has expended so much energy bashing other people, almost to the point of appearing immature.
Dan, people like redvirginia will never believe any facts. They will always bring out that tired mantra "Liberal Media" to justify not believing them.
Bush caused our deficit to balloon to massive proportions while VP Cheney said, "Deficits don't matter."
Also, Bush never included the cost of the two wars he started in the deficit. They were all special or emergency appropriations. That way he could make it LOOK like the deficit was a lot smaller.
President Obama actually stopped the Bush lie to the American people by including the 8 year cost of the wars in the deficit. Obama was honorable while Bush was dishonorable and a liar.
Obama is weak & incompetent and an agent for WallStreet. there is no hope for this country if given his track record there are still people ignorant, naive & bias enough to re-elect him.
enjoy the payroll tax refund, the extra unemployment benefit, the home tax credit, and all other bailout money while the country is being slowly destroyed by socialism. using tax payers money to buy votes is the only thing this president can do. we are in the biggest crisis since the Great Depression and the only things he's capable of are bailouts and printing money.
say good bye to your Social Security, 401K and pensions as all these bailouts are coming straight out of them. just wait for hyperinflation when butter hits the fan and you have no job, living in a dumpster. when people riot in the streets because bailout money has ran out (China say no mo' free loans to fat & lazy Americans) and see if you still care when exactly does inception begin.
plain bob 2012...
pjam09
no president in the history of this nation has deported more illegal aliens then president Obama.
Regan offered amnesty for illegals.. Bush did nothing at all about it...
it's people like you who never research the real facts that are the most dangerous people to America humanity and society.
Why would anyone want to elect a man that believes in magical spectacles, whose very recent ancestors couldn't settle for one wife or country, and who himself cannot settle on any political issues without complete reversal. Being a politician should be easy. First you respect the Constitution, and then the wishes of the people. A politician's personal beliefs should have no bearing on law or policy. This is the point of representing other people.
mark, let China say no more money..we can do what we did to Iran and just TAKE our property back..what the hell can they do about it?
If Obama is so weak, then I guess Bush was even weaker...who killed Osama?
Who kept the United States' word and pulled out of Iraq?...
If you have half a brain, do some research and read that Bush and Cheney had NO INTENTION of keeping that promise...I found that...
who used the bully pulpit to prevent the teabaggers from shutting down our government?
I could go on, but more than likely you are far too big of a sheeple to even slightly acknowledge the truth
Has Obama been the best POTUS?
nope
has he done better than Bush, MOST CERTAINLY
will he do better than any of the GOP clowns running now, definately
lagartija2, I'm old enough to clearly remember George Romney saying, in a press conference, that he was NOT a candidate for his party's presidential nomination, and that he wasn't a candidate because, as someone born outside of the US, he was not eligible to be president.
I don't know where your understanding of this came from, but mine came from the source.
BWAA--hahahaha! What Anchor Baby Irony !!
During the split second when my mind gets lazy and I think of the concept of Whitey, I think of any one of 10,000 teeth-clenching, fake laughing, golf-playing rich white guys named Biff Bifferson down here in Scottsdale AZ... and now, I can also think of Mitt Romney, my Homie Vato. hahaha. The Birthers need to make certain that Mitt was born in Michigan, USA... and not in Michoacán Mexico.
Ohh, and.... Unregulated whipping out of the ol' pecker on womenfolk should not be allowed to be called "religious persecution." C'mon. Get real.
Is this the same subject re: Romney with Mexican relatives, vs. Obama's father being black?
Finding trivia to "kill" Romney's Campaign. Digging up the dirt for a Smear Campaign, lowering his status as a solid Candidate for President.
Poof! How low can one dig for just "anything" that doesn't fit the Profile of a United States President.
rpearlston i guess you were a hippie that was stoned at the time of this "press conference" that George Romney announced he wasnt a candidate for the GOP presidential nomination
George Romney ran for the 1968 Republican Party nomination in the 1968 United States presidential election.
Romney was the Governor of Michigan and a renowned automaker who focused his campaign on the issues of fiscal responsibility, welfare reform and the Vietnam War.[1] If elected he would have been the first Mormon president.
Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in the gaps left by the Constitution. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are "citizens of the United States at birth:"
Good to know that Nanook NoNo the Yellow Snow Eeater is eligible to run for POTUS.
As for Hawaiians... if someone was born prior to the year Hawaii became a state of the USA... does this situation represent a potential non-eligibility problem? Same Q pertains to New Mexico which was one of the other more recent additions to the USA... I am reminded of my hairy little buddy Bill Richardson...
Keyword is "tried"...first get the whole story out.
Second, the Birthers are contending that Barack was born possibly in Kenya (not one of the United States ha,ha).
Third, the article said that Romney's Mexican family holds DUAL citizenship...something that would also disqualify Obama since his father did not.
Please take reading comprehension 101 over again since you retain nothing of what you've read. With people like yourself, it is easy to see how Obama can pull the wool over your head...lol
#2, Ametrina, Everything you said about Romney is true, except for the part that he can't be elected President because of it. Remember, GWB managed to be President not once, but twice, which is mind boggling. Democrats need to vote in force this November and make sure that situation doesn't happen again. If we don't vote, I hate to say this, but we deserve what we get. Obama needs more votes than Karl Rove and Co. can tamper with.
My my, let the spin continue. Remember when Kennedy was running for president? Lots of criticism. Seems the critics insisted the pope would be taking over the country and our currency would have his likeness. Have at it folks.
A cult is a cult.
You have a point, but not necessarily a good one. It was NOT the Pope that took over the country during the Kennedy Administration. It WAS the ARCHBISHOP of Boston (famous for covering for his priests) that pushed Kennedy and 'Chip' O'Neill (Speaker of the House) to send combat troops to Vietnam. One could reasonably lay 50,000 American deaths, 500,000 Vietnamese deaths, and a few hundreds of billions of dollars of wasted American wealth at the door of that Archdiocese. The motivation for the Archbishop was to promote/protect Catholicism in in South East Asia.
I remember JFK. MITT is no Kennedy.
Learn more about the secret Mormon Temple activities that Mitt is so fond of. Then tell us if you still think he is White House responsible.
Hey Glen Scott,
Try picking up a history book once in a while. Eisenhower had nearly 1000 "advisors" in South Viet Nam when Kennedy took office.
First, it was "Tip" O'Neal and he was speaker during Reagan's administration. Sam Rayburn was speaker during the Kennedy administration. Your facts are wrong, did you even try to check them or did you just decide to make something up to mislead people? It seems you have an axe to grind with the Catholic church. And truth be known our first involvement in Vietnam started in 1950 when we sent aid to the French so that they could train troops in opposition of the Russian supported Viet Minh. There were approximately 140 thousand catholic's from the northern part of Vietnam that migrated south around 1956 and we helped them migrate. It was to save their lives as they were persecuted by the communists but those facts much have slipped thorough your dragnet when you researched your comments.
" Tip" O'neill was speaker from 1977 (after the war in Vietnam) to 1987.John McCormack was speaker during the War. Kennedy's last decision on Vietnam was to get the advisors out and not send in the troops. The military industrial complex, did not support this. Shortly after this decision was made,he travelled to FT. Worth, home of Bell Helicopter, the last place he left alive. Texas son,LBJ, reluctantly takes his place,Bell sells HUEYS,viet cong shoots down 1,Bell sells 2 more. Money really did talk in 1963.
Again, Marinmom, the LDS church is not a cult. You might as well call all churches cults. And Ohhhpinnnyunnn, if you haven't been to a Mormon temple ceremony, then please refrain from making ludicrous comments based in fiction and fantasy. You don't have to like Romney. If the LDS church was going to control Romney as President they would have controlled him as governor of Massachussetts and since so many pro lifers hate some of his choices as governor, that would prove the LDS church didn't tell him what to do. Because the LDS church is basically pro-life.
Actually, all churches are cults, as a matter of fact. It's just that the LDS church is a little bit more absurd than the rest.

Cerberus Capital Management $79,450
Sun Capital Partners $77,850
WHO DO YOU THINK THIS BLOKE WORKS FOR?
@Floridamom Yes, I am saying all churches by definition are cults. Religious cults sell an invisible product and get federal assistance money, tax exempt status and tax free contributions. This is prejudicial toward non-believers, shows favortism towards churches and should be unconstitutional.I'm sure you sit around bashing welfare recipients, though.
So sorry you fell for an invisible product but I'm sure it's working out for you. Too bad Mormons don't think anyone else has a right to anything.
The14ugh!ngm@n-- What is your point? Obama was the largest receipient of campaign cash during his time as the Junior Senator from "Chicago style" Illinois and while running for president. Top contributors include Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, UBS AG, Morgan Stanley, and the power law firms to the (allegedly) evil corporate puppetmasters- Skadden Arps, Latham & Watkins, et al.
What is curious is the large contributions from public educational institutions. Reminds me of the good old days when Clinton/Gore were taking millions from Buddhist monks. Who knew that impoverished public educational institutions and monks had so much in common- lots of money!
glen scutt; Kennedy had announced two months before he was killed, that he was pulling all American troops out of Vietnam, he was a admirer of MacArthur, (never fight a land war in Asia); it was LBJ, that one day after Kennedy was laid to rest, that he reversed the order and announced more troops for Vietnam. (one of the main reason Kennedy was killed was, certain powerful groups had turned against him ,for refusing to back up the Bay of Pigs invasion, and not going to war in Vietnam)
There are 111 major Corporations EXEMPT under the Obozo Health care plan. Why don't check and see if THEY are supporting him?
Did anyone not know that Romney works for wall street crooks?
Does everyone NOT REALIZE all elected politicians work for wall street crooks, and any large corporation/industry with enough money to buy them out?
Seriously folks...get with the program.
They havent been working for us since the inception of this nation...only themselves, which is why most of them go from modest wealth to extreme millionaires once they leave office. They all get lucrative "board" or "advising" jobs from the companies they gave preferential treatment for while in office.
Reality sucks...and we're too lazy to do anything about it.
I cant wait for manufacturing to come back, and we can all work those jobs for $5/hr...afterall, the heads of manufacturing have said they want nothing more than to bring the work back, we just have to be willing to compete with the chinese on our wages...
while they make billions of course, naturally...they are the hard workers! duh!
Thel4ugh!ngm@n.......now post all the obama contributors
Two words....Hope and Change.

Having watch Vietman in HD on the history channel, your almost right on the mark.
kennedy was not going to send troops in and neither was Johnson untill he got tired of our ships being attacked by the north off shore from veitman. he began a bombing campaign called rolling thunder to make the north stop harrasing our ships off shore and to try and slow the norths steady gains in the south.
what happened next was the blonder that would last the next 10 years. he sent troops in the protect the bases in the south where bombers were stationed. Big mistake, because before that the north did not engage and american advisers or attack any american bases in the south.
the sadest part of all this is that before the north went to the russians for help the asked us to get the france to leave in 1948, yes 1948. when we said no because of our alliance with france, they went to the russians.
before this the north had no intentions of being a communist government but because of truman this is what happened.
yes kennedy,Eisenhowerand even johnson had no intentions to sent troops in but Johnson made the ultimate mistake when he started bombing the north and the vietnam was started.

LOL LOL LOL LOL
I have it on good authority that a large portion of his family were abducted by aliens after Roswell in the 40s where alien DNA was mixed with human ... shortly after which Mitt was born. (Look it up, both events occurred in 1947!)
He will be the first human/Gractonian Emperor President of the United States before it is all said and done. Pesky Gractonians.
Peach, thanks for the list. I will be sure to patronize as many of those organizations as I can, just for their support of Obama.
Wow, have the schools missed the mark on recent history.
Ok, Kennedy was shot by Oswald, period.
Kennedy raised the level of american troops in Vietnam from 900 to 16,000, and participated in the plotting that led to the assassination of South Vietnamese President Ngo (his name Ngo Dinh Diem, is in the style of lastname/firstname, like calling John Kennedy, Kennedy John)
There is NO indication, other than in the fevered brains of conspiracy nuts and Oliver Stone that Kennedy had ANY intention of immediately pulling out of Vietnam, nor that he would have put more ground forces in at Johnson's levels. There IS evidence to suggest he would have doubled at least the number of advisers and put special forces into Vietnam, and where that might have led, who knows.
Today's brief history lesson, I thank you.
rtoushi12; nope, Kennedy in a speech at the news-club meeting, about 2 months before his death, stated that he was going to pull all American advisers from viet-nam; was Oswald involved in the assassination, yes, was he aware that he as going to be the fall guy, nope.
I'm pretty sure Miles Romney lived in Utah for quite a while before moving to Mexico.
I discovered this because I myself am related distantly to Mitt Romney by marriage. About a year ago I was doing documentation for the DotR scholarship and found this out.
Source: Family trees and other official records on Ancestry.com, documenting Miles Romney, his wives, children, and history
Russell-2157151 said:
I'm confused too - It sounds as though most of the Romneys that are in Mexico were born there, and their lineage goes back several generations. Yet the article stated that the Mexican Romneys enjoy "dual citizenship."
So why are they allowed dual citizenship? How often do these dual citizenship Romneys even venture into the United States? If they're so happy being in Mexico (obviously they are wealthy down there, or they wouldn't be so happy), why do they even want the dual citizenship, what's in it for them?
Another question: Just how much money and other assets does a foreign national have to put and keep in this country to "buy" themselves "dual citizenship"? Must be A LOT, to cover an entire family over several generations!
Does each and every Romney in Mexico get a house bought for them in the United States upon their birth, then never even live in it? How does it all work?
For Chris: His Quote:
There is nothing illegal about multiple marriages as practiced by modern Mormons.
Chris, You are speaking erroneously. The FLDS church does practice polygamy, however the Mormon church in modern time DOES NOT PRACTICE POLYGAMY!! If you want to quote Mormon church policy, get your facts first! Don't just make up things from your mind, or do guess work! I am a practicing Mormon (an active member of the LDS church, and I know what I am talking about!)
Mitt's father, George was born in Mexico, had dual citizenship, but Mitt lived all his life in the USA. I don't know for sure which state Mitt was born in, but I am going to guess that he was born in Michigan. That's where his father George spent a lot of his life.
so now the Democrats could beat a dead horse about Romney REALLY being an American citizen. But they won't. Because it is as ignorant as the Republicans beating that dead horse that is Obama's birthplace.
Kenya?
I love the Republican idealism, because they are talking themselves right out of relevance. They'v destroyed their own party
Would that make him MexiMormAmerican??
Romney---may just be an illegal---I wonder where is HIS Birth Certificate.
Time to bring it forth before you waste anymore donation and time.
Wait a minute. If Romney's daddy was born in Mexico (and a Mexican citizen), in those days the United States did NOT RECOGNIZE dual citizenship, then Romney was some sort of 'anchor baby' to permit his illegal immigrant parents to remain in the United States. Now, Republicans want to get rid of 'anchor babies.' If it is retroactive, then Romney would no longer be eligible to hold office as President. He would perforce be stripped of his ill-gotten citizenship and his office. Presumably his Vice President would take his place. Therefore, Romney's running mate assumes an unusal degree of importance during the coming Presidential election.
Philapen-.....and the Dumbocrats have destroyed your city of Philthydelphia......
Original, long form. Nothing less.
Heck, EVERY running mate has an "unusual degree of importance." We'd probably be complaining about President McCain had he paid better attention to the selection of person who would have been one heart-beat from the presidency. Bush I blew it with DQ, but Danny Boy didn't promote any of the war and bloodshed that Bush II's pick did.
And time to show his financial records.
Glen scutt, WRONG, if Romney dad was born to a US citizen, even in the toilet known as Mexico, he still is considered a "natural" citizen
The residence can have been while the parent
was a minor, and there is no length of time for which the parent must have
resided in the US
George Romney
While Romney was born in Mexico, he was still considered a viable and legal candidate for United States president. His Mormon grandfather and his three wives had fled to Mexico in 1886, but none of them ever relinquished U.S. citizenship. While the Constitution requires that a president must be a natural-born citizen, the first Congress of the United States in 1790 passed legislation stating: "The children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond the sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural-born citizens of the United States." Romney and his family fled Mexico in 1912 prior to the Mexican Revolution. However, the Naturalization Act of 1795 repealed the Act of 1790 and removed the language explicitly stating that the children of U.S. citizens are natural-born citizens. As such, it is not clear that Romney was actually eligible for the office of president. ( Compliments of Wikipedia)
Yeah like was there ever any money sent by western union to Mexico?
Birth Certificate; Long Form Please

Good hair
Get the puck out of here
This election will be interesting indeed.
I'm pretty much thinking that he can wait until the third year after being elected to reveal anything. Isn't that the way it is done?
By the way, his Mother, not him, would be the anchor baby.
marinmon, I watch documentaries all the time and I am rebublican. Ooops, there goes your ingnorant comment. But thanks for allowing all of us dumb republicans to join in. How is it you know these shows that you, uhm never watch??
Silly Romney. Don't bother with this angle to get hispanic support. Like Rubio, you can't be a real hispanic if you are a republican. Like Rubio, because you are a repub, you are racist and hate anybody not rich and not white.
Your views on republicans are just as backward as you claim they are.
BMOC - how is that? Because I threw out some sarcasm based on certain left wing orgs and people who blasted Rubio for being anti hispanic. Based on my one comment of sarcasm please ellaborate on how my views are backwards. Hell, please inform me of what my views are.
It is people like you who make wild assumptions about others based on very little to nothing. Grow up and learn to think moron.
Silly yeah right. It's amazing to see someone show their ignorance in multiple ways.
BTW.....MLK Jr. was a Republican. Dum-mass.
BMOC, I'm not entirely sure, since subtlety is a dying art in modern society, but I think he was being sarcastic.
Not knowing you at all, how am I supposed to know you're being sarcastic?
It's about time for a sarcasm font!
Honestly, I figured my sarcasm would be obvious considering what I wrote. Anyone who thinks like that can't be for real. At least for anyone that I would associate with.
Fair enough. Unfortunately, there are many so-called enlightened people who actually feel that way. Scary.
Didn't mean to jump on you like that.
Cheers!
I am a real Hispanic and registered REPUBLICAN, successful business owner and looking for a president who will lead. I guess you're wrong. SORRY
And I am A=a liberal and own my own biz. So what?
sarcasm is usually followed by
/sarcasm
on most forums when it's not already obvious.
I'm sorry to have to break it to you like this, PHR, but your party hates you and would like nothing more than for you to just go away.
Really? Prove it.
Yeah Right, you forget one thing that really makes you an appealing Republican. You have to be fat like Newt Gingrich. I think this is why with all of the money Romney has, he can't move to a secure number one.
I mean considering his age and new found heritage, obesity should be a requirement.
Toasty - oh come on, thats not true.
It's republicans - by and large - unwilling to do anything about immigration reform because they dont want to lose their cheap "practically" slave labor in the fields.
It's just the fringe rabid ones who hate mexicans, even if they claim to be republicans...unlike the log cabin republicans, in which all non-gay republicans hate the gay ones...thats just totally different, they dont have any gay republicans slaving away in fields to be "ok about"...
Toasty, I hate to break it to you, but your party wants to take away all of your money.
PROUDHISPANICREPUBLICAN
I am a real Hispanic and registered REPUBLICAN, successful business owner and looking for a president who will lead. I guess you're wrong. SORRY
I guess Taco trucks are businesses too
I urge everyone to familiarize themselves with the origins of Mormonism, what the Mormon founders did to young girls on their way to Utah, how Mormons went to Mexico and other places to escape prosecution and to try to sell Mormonism, etc. The history of the Mormon church is scandalous, ruthless, brutal.
Yeah Right,
The problem is that there really are people on the Vine that think like that. It's very, very sad, but true.
Karl,
Please tell us that you are not honestly suggesting that because of their history, all Mormons must be scandalous, ruthless, and brutal. You can't really be serious, can you?
Wow, the sheer rudeness and hostility here makes me wonder how vile some of you posters truly act online. Outright posting just to insult other users? Immaturity and disrespect much?
If you want to go trolling and flaming, there's plenty of other forums for you to go on.
yeah right?, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
The sarcasm tag suggestion is a good one.
...
For sure!
yes it is not like Mormons were hunted down and shot or had there homes and and businesses burned ( sometimes with them still inside) and they never did have to cross thousands of miles to escape from military forces sent to stop them at all cost ( in a nation of freedom of religion). ( oh and this is sarcasm just so you know) and karl as a Mormon I would really love to see this info you seem to think you have on the horrors of the Mormon faith
JRM, I think you are in shock because you have only been fed the sugar coated version. I know from experience. You really need to be honest with yourself about why Joseph Smith was being hunted down. Do some reasearch independent of what the church tells you.
I bet they never focused on the really sick parts of the bible, either. And these are the people you look to and pattern your life after.
Joseph Smith was a con man. Face it.
Indeed he was. He was convicted of being a con man in March of 1826 in Bainbridge New York where he admitted to defrauding others and claiming to possess dark or necromantic powers. Eighteen months later...he claimed to have discovered the "golden plates" containing the "book of mormon".
That's a pretty interesting story in itself. Smith was partially illiterate...he could read a little, but he couldn't write, so he had his wife Emma, transcribe the plates from behind a blanket while he dictated. After awhile that wasn't working out, so he enlisted his neighbor, Martin Harris to do the transcribing. He strung the blanket up in his kitchen and sat on one side and dictated, telling Harris that if he looked at the plates or at Smith, he would be struck dead. (large portions of the subsequent text...over 25 thousand words....were found later to be taken directly from the old testament, and another 2 thousand from the new...so perhaps he didn't want to be seen reading from the bible and not the imaginary 'plates'). His wife became unwilling to play along with all of this, and stole the first 116 pages, challenging him to reproduce them exactly...which he could have done had he been reading from an inscription to begin with. Of course...he couldn't do that, so he claimed that god sent him new plates to dictate from instead.
He very deliberately based this new religion on the muslim religion, which revered their prophet. He declared that "I shall be to this generation a new Muhammad". Like their prophet, he suplemented his original book with on-going "revelations" throughout his life, mostly self-serving and having to do with members of his flock signing their property over to him or with sleeping with all the available women.
The self serving "revelations" continue...one of which was the revelation that black people are really human too...which came about the time of the civil rights act. Prior to that, mormons were some of the worst racists in the country. Now...they are some of the worst homophobes. History has taught them nothing.
Interesting thank you, just one question, what is a Homophobe?
ho·mo·pho·bi·a (h m-f b-) n. 1. Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men. 2. Behavior based on such a feeling. [homo(sexual) + -phobia.] ho mo·phobe n.
Henry Thinks Thank you so then Home=Self, of ones own kind Phobos=fear,
So then the real terminology is a fear that comes from one basedon a " self " so tell me, if i am a Homosexual, and I fear talking about Homosexuality, am i not then a Homophobic ?
I don't think so. One of the definitians had homo(sexuality)phobia bracketed to imply unsaid. I take it as being threatened by or frightened of homosexuality to a disfunctional degree. And I don't think so to the second question. I just think a lot of us have mixed feelings about it or are in a state of flux in our attitudes. But I don't know you well enough to know if you qualify.
So back at you, if I have homosexual friends but would prefer they don't sleep in my house, does that make me homophobic?
Henry Excellent. so nice to come across a thinking person with an ability to reason and deduction, words are created to help, one persons thoughts to be passed to another person, almost never are they complete in that function because of a number of reasons, one is the " Train of thought " that a person is in, when a word of phrase is used, if i may here is an example, a neighbours having a problem with en electrical socket, having a chat with another neighbour that knows about electricity and wiring, after the problem is solved, the first neighbour is making a sandwich, the second ask " how was the role" now that is a simple question, but an analysis is brain thought is important, what " role " what created the electrical problem? why the Electrical socket had a short? No, how is the " bread role " :=) So a simple word can have multiple meanings and it may be misunderstood not because of lack of knowledge, but because of the " train of thought of the listener at the time "
So back to thequestion, If i have Homosexual Friends, then I should be wise enough to know the Basics.
1) Homosexuality is not a Transferable Virus ( Amazing how many might disagree with that lol )
2) All Homosexuals might NOT participate in Anal Sex ( Anal Sex and then Oral Sex are deaddly by nature)
3) What are the Dangerous from Viral bacterial infections that a HIV/AIDS Carrier might pose to My Family while they might be quests.
So once I have Information on the above, then and Only then i would be ably to make " an informed choice" so if some one says that i do not need to know ALL of the above, what does that tell You?
http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd189/Eagle_Averro/?action=view¤t=Category2009USA.jpg
So back to the " farm " if a group of Homosexuals are trying to force the media or Government officials to Stop talking about the Dangers of Anal and Oral sex, would that not qualify them as " homophobic " I personally think it does.
Continuation to " What we hear and what is meant ":

This should help him get some Hispanic votes. Better to have ties with Mexico than with Kenya.
I think you should rethink that comment. There has to be a reason that he NEVER visited, nor spoke of this ROOT? No roots, honey, just family running when they can't get what they want. What do you think? Hispanics are not stupid! He will be challenged on this issue. Should have left it in the closet.
I guess the ties with polygamy helps Mitt too.
I don't think America has to worry too much about Kenyans crossing the border illegally.
If one is a true American and believes in our country's system, support of our Commander in Chief would by no means be an issue. The Mexico-Kenya comment does'nt deserve to be entertained. Doubt if Hispanics base their preferences on ties, rather will vote on issues.
Teri, yeah, one illegal Kenyan was enough ! :)
Moremisinformed .... a true American should not support the CIC when he/she is wrong; one should not support enemies domestic or foreign. Blind allegiance can be dangerous, no matter which political "party" is involved. This is not intended to be a slam on Obama , but ideology. The Mexico-Kenya comment must be entertained since it will play a role eventually , good or bad as that may be. Thanks for your opinion.
Latinos will find this an interesting read concerning Mitt Romneys roots
I am a Latina and find nothing interesting in Mittens' background.
Then by all means do the right thing
Vote Obama 2012
How exactly? The fact the family is talking about his Mexican heritage is laughable. His father was born of two American citizens hiding out in Mexico to escape legal prosecution. There is no Mexican heritage. That would be like the family of my friend who was born in Ghana to two American Missionaries claiming Ghanaian heritage. They are both 100% American, accident of birthplace may make you a citizen but it doesn't mean you soak up heritage or culture... especially leaving at age 5.
As previously stated, you might want to find the truth out before you start saying people are hiding out to avoid prosecution.
Saffron - based on that comment, then we arent americans...
just europeans squatting on this land, pretending to claim some heritage to it.
most of us couldnt even tell what "mix" we are...
Floridamom - does it really matter? I dont think it really does...either they crossed the border to get away from legal prosecution, or they crossed the border searching for greener pastures...
and no doubt, with a sense of "entitlement" wherever their pioneering feet take them.
Florida Mom, it is right there in Wiki for all to see... even names the Romneys.

too much baggage just like NEWT,Ron Paul or Rick SAntorum would be my choice!
Seems like, all of sudden, folks are looking closely at Santorum. Apparently he became wealthy using his political connections to enrich corporations. Just another earnest political whore. Another blatant Republican hypocrite who can not stand close examination. No problem, the RomneyPAC is 'on the job.'
VETTING RICK SANTORUM!
When she met Rick, Karen was living with Tom Allen, an OBGYN who in the early-1970s cofounded Pittsburgh's first abortion clinic. It was a somewhat unusual pairing. Allen was the doctor who delivered Karen. She began living with him while an undergraduate nursing student at Pittsburgh's Duquesne University. She was in her early 20s, he was in his 60s.
"When she moved out to go be with Rick, she told me I'd like him, that he was pro-choice and a humanist," said Allen, an elderly but vibrant man, during a brief conversation on the porch of his Pittsburgh row home. "But I don't think there's a humanist bone in that man's body."
Santorum has often said that at the time of their meeting neither he nor Karen were that devout in their faith. Upon falling in love, he says, they embarked on a soul-searching examination of their lives that brought them both closer to God.
One might wonder, which god? The god of rich corporations that made Santorum a wealthy man peddling political influence?
He's doubled his wealth by consulting for lobbyists since he lost his last election bid by 18%.
I am a PA resident. Santorum is a very short stone's throw away from Romney. Both have performed actions that benefited corporations and fattened their pockets at the expense of others. Neither is presidential material and neither will get my vote this November. The only Repub that would even have a chance with me would be Ron Paul and I don't see that happening either, he will never win the primary. I would consider voting for Ron Paul because of some of his views such as a fed audit, seriously needed, and reverting back to the gold standard. A few of his others views, I would have to consider heavily upon, but as I see it, I see 4 more years for Obama.
Round Robin - you do realize we just did a Fed Audit...Bernie Sanders was part of that.
Why do you think the FED would give Ron Paul real, true damaging info against themselves...but wouldnt give it to democrats?
The reality is, any audit done by anyone isnt going to be realistic or accurate, just more smoke and mirrors...
and the gold standard...UGH.
money isnt real, the only real value money has is what we give it...
same is true of GOLD. there's not magical about a bar of gold that makes it MORE REAL or MORE VALUABLE...just what we SAY about it.
when people come to understand this fully, the world will change.
Work and production should be rewarded...not hoarding and manipulating.
You work, you make money...PERIOD thats how it should be.
Everyone wants to make money, so lets put everyone to work...
Lets see your birth certificate, Mitt.
Jess-
I do realize that there was a fed reserve audit. It wasn't a complete federal goverment audit. Look at every single fashion of goverment that spends tax payers money and make sure it is accounted for. No more of this covert operation crap either. There is way too much corruption in government from Local to Federal. I was stating a few examples of a couple of views of Ron Paul, that I support.
Exactly, gold has a value that we put on it as a global commonditity. The paperback dollar is just paper with a pretty design, only backed by the holder's confidence in its value. I understand completely. Hell, if cat turds were in global demand, then it would have value too, but unfortunitly, its worthless.
I have worked pretty hard to get where I am. I am completely self made. I worked nights and put myself through college as I attended classes during the day. I didn't get a single handout from anyone or entity. All I expect is to get out what I put in and nothing more and nothing less.
Until we get rid of money altogether, we will continue to have these issues (fat chance on that, but I can dream).
RoundRobin "Until we get rid of money altogether, we will continue to have these issues (fat chance on that, but I can dream). " Since money is just a Promissory note, what would you use to replace it, will you go back to bartering and Going shopping with a Cow a Couple Pigs and a pigeon ? :-)
2012 Are you IN?SANE. Obama has been a complete disaster. He has already LOST.
Dream on
President Obama/Vice President Biden in 2012. Take that to the bank.
What in the world are you smokin? Check out the polls. Out of the major ten polls, Romney is ahead of Obama in only............. ONE
I like the idea of a Obama/Clinton ticket. 12 years to get the GOP conservatives out of the Supreme Court.
greg, unless you've got more candidates than have been running so far obama's still the least scariest choice.
Mr. Berry,
Why do you state President Obama is a complete disaster? Please give me some facts to support your statement.
Hey Greg, better lay off the funny stuff.
Gary, the Republicans have no "REAL" facts, they have FAUX facts.
I have heard it said, (and I am in complete agreement) that there are only two kinds of Republicians, the very rich and the very stupid.
Maybe you're just very hopeful. You are also very wrong.
Leon - Still better than the one kind of Democrat; unAmerican.
For Obama to lose, someone else must win. And so far, nobody has won.
Stop smoking meth.
pjam- that comment shows just how unAmerican you can be. There is no record of the voting demographic of either party but maybe Leon is stating his/her opinion? That is still allowed in this country, the last time checked, it was? I consider myself a liberal conservative independent. I want to be able to live my life the way I want to without someone else trying to push their beliefs on me. I come a primarily republican family. I do not share the same views on a lot of issues. I am a college graduate with a BSME as well as a minor in physics and math. Both of my parents come from large farm families where most barely graduated high school. I also see what Leon is referring to and share a similar opinion. That doesn't make one an unAmerican. Its just that a voting American that is uniformed, even misinformed or misled, can cast a vote that is equal to another, possibly more accurately informed vote.
I always wanted to visit another planet -- you said space shuttle # what?
Mexican Polygamists....how cool is that!
The correct term is "cucaracha" or "cockroach".
Has anyone checked out when, or if, the Romney clan stopped being polygamists?
"cucaracha" Polygamists FlipRomney Clan.
Now go to Mexico and kidnap them SOBs
Do we need to start looking into Mitt's Birth Certificate? Or should we stick to the real concerns of this country? Maybe "The Donald" should be concerned. It might give him something to do.
Thanks for the report! Now I KNOW he is being supported by the mexican drug cartels.
If his family is doing so well in northern Mexico, where most of the money is drug cartel money, one might wonder............
I love it!!!
Are you suggesting that both Obama and Romney are connected to the drug trades?
Fugitives on the run huh? Makes me wonder what else they ran across the border with, besides their extra wives. It's hard to believe that fugitives from the law are able to legitimately acquire much wealth while they're on the run.
I think they may have purloined more than a few extra wives.. I wouldn't be surprised if they were horse thieves too!
Just announced, REAL unemployment is setting at 15.3%. CHANGE Please and Hurry
I guess that means you are in the 1%.
If you were in the 99% you would understand it's the Republicans who are keeping you down.
If you want to be rich as a Republican, you will vote Democratic.
As of today, if you read the home page of MSNBC.COM, unemployment went down to 8.5%.
At first I though your first name was Moron.
And your source for this figure is? Or just in your righty-tighty dreams....
Down for the moment... I know of 2 manufacturing plants that are closing in the next 60-90 days in the Cincinnati area. That will mean approximately 400 new unemployment claims in Ohio alone.
You must get your "facts" from faux news!
greg berry, if the Republicans would have gained control in 2008 we would be at 25-30% unemployment right now. US auto plants would close putting millions out of work in months. It would cause hundreds of small businesses that supplied parts to the auto industry to close shop. And hundreds of other small businesses that supplied those small businesses to fold as well. It would have been a disasterous domino effect.
Republicans only know how to rape and pillage the economy at the expense of the working class. Sadly, working class republicans are so closed minded and ignorant they would vote for a republican as he was slitting their throat while he is saying "This will help America and God wills it.".
At first I though your first name was Moron.
Well, Dan, we are all glad you share your reading disabilities with all the liberals. I hear they are supportive of those of us who live with special needs.
please gime me a brake anything to get the hispanic vote..........wheres the mother from africa.....
What is that nasty federal Debt at now? 15.3 Trillion dollars! Hope just turned to NOPE!
Yep Bush only contributed 10.6 trillion .
Republicans are amnesiac liars.
smiling - Thanks for such a factual post. Clearly Bush was the only president ever before Obama.
What a moron.
How in the Hell does anyone forget bush was President before President Obama?
Crazy azz tea bags, Meat Bags
Nope, Bush wasn't the only president before Obama.. But he was the first president to come after Clinton, and then Bush wiped out the surplus.
Those wars didn't pay for themselves like a lot of idiots had thought would happen. Now the same idiots are in denial that those wars are what bankrupted us!
...to the national debt. Now, what exactly isn't "factual" about that post?
Young man: please research, or just read comments, and try to keep up, will you? Do you really believe that Obama took office in 2009 and caused this near total economic collapse in so short a period. You guys wanted him to fix (overnight) what took at least the last eight years of spending the surplus (handed to you by Clinton) on corporate breaks on whatever they wanted, and NOT paying for 2 wars. Look it up -- IT'S SOMEWHERE FOR ALL TO SEE. YOU'RE ON THE COMPUTER -- GET ON IT! He's been trying to clean up another Republican mess, including getting the people responsible for American deaths on our soil. Sorry, but you guys couldn't even do that -- went after invisible WMDs, instead, and spent way too much on unnecessary, poorly planned wars, that served only to kill our dedicated citizens. Ever wonder why everybody hated the good old USA? In case you hadn't noticed (and I doubt you've been ale to turn off FOX long enough to get the facts elsewhere. Well, the Obama policies are working. Slower than expected, due to Congressional Republicans obstruction. They won't admit it, but they would kill for his record! He did it his way, without their help! And it's working! Your party has no accomplishments! Look up that also. Why do you think they're constantly trying to claim some part of every accomplishment of the Obama administration? Grow up!
Mittens is an anchor baby! LOL
That's not true. His father came to Oakley, Idaho after legally coming to the United States after the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
Of course to actually want to re-elect Obama you have to be unable to grasp the difference between illegal acts vs. legal acts.
I think you have that bass-ackwards - in order to vote Republican, you have to be unable to grasp the difference between illegal acts vs. legal acts.
Of course that in itself is obviously hard for some folks to grasp!
I think that Mitt better be careful when he talks about marriage. Especially when it comes out that his Great Great Grandfather was a Mormon and had more than one wife and that is why he went to Mexico....TO ESCAPE PROSECUTION! Next, the family remained down there until the Mexican Revolution because they were still under threat of prosecution up here in the States. Since Mitt LDS someone needs to ask him how he feels about the Manifesto of Wilford Woodruff in the 1890s..It pertained to the removal of Plural Marriage from the Earth, BECAUSE it was the only way to get Utah into Statehood AND the keep the Authorities from taking the Church assets. Plural Marriage was taken from the Earth, it however was NEVER taken from Heaven and the LDS Church still believes in it and that it can be restored
So?
In keeping with my support of the policy of separation of church and state, I automatically cross off my list any candidate who makes a big deal of his religion. The fact that (at least my part of) the country has been drowning in commercials showcasing the Mormons means I'm outta here.
vd --> shut up, nobody cares. what does this have to do with politics today, and the current state of our country? oh, that's right, absolutely nothing. you sound like an ex-mormon out for retribution, get a life.
Sources???
We also believe in "obeying, sustaining, and honoring the law" (Articles of Faith: 12). The Supreme Court upheld the prohibition on plural marriage in 1890. As long as that law is in effect, and as long as God says, "don't do it", the LDS Church will excommunicate anyone who marries more than one wife - and it doesn't matter a bit what any so-called "fundamentalist" sects may believe.
does that vd actually come from std? your brain has been washed in a fanciful indoctrination of religious myth. All this God intrusion into our live is mythical at best. Quite evident you are moron, oh should be mormon, take your soap box back to Salt Lake and along with your in-bred brood of mis-fits.
K Kammeyer, that doesn't change the fact that the church's founder Joseph Smith implemented plural marriage. You can try to clean it up all you want but the fact of the matter is that plural marriage is a sick cult behavior. Even though it has been outlawed, it is still with you. It is part of your history you can not deny.
Looking into the psychological profile of religious cults will tell you that they all share the same characteristics. Polygamy is almost always present. It is no coincidence that religion and polygamy go hand in hand. It is the same controlling type of narcissist/sadist who uses religion to control others and make themselves superior.
marinmom:
The old practice of polygamy in the LDS Church was in part based off of the Bible and the fact that polygamy was practiced by many in Old Testament times. The fact that they believed in this shows (in part) that they believed in the Bible. Weird practice? Yes. But those beliefs did not just come out of nowhere.
Attacking religion on such a broad and biased basis is never a wise thing to do. You think of religion as a big cult that are used in controlling others, but you don't even consider all of the good things religion has done in our society. Consider the founders of this country, for example. -- They were religious people. Not to mention all the aid religious communities provide people here and abroad in these days.
I guess you are only stating how you would benefit from religion if you pertained to a church. ?
You don't need to join a cult to do good.
K.Kamm and Avaquat, your answers are so canned and sugar coated, just like the rest of Mormonism.
The facts remain. You can't change them or hide them. I am too strong in mind to fall for mind tricks.
Your argument is totally without logic. Using your own process, I can just as easily say that slavery is a part of the democratic party's past and can not be swept under the rug since it was the first Republican ever elected to the presidency that brought it to an end and that the Democrats ran on a platform endorsing it. Additionally I can say that segregation is a democratic institution since the republicans voted overwhelmingly for the civil rights act and the democrats did not. I however as an enlightened conservative do not foist the sins of the father or mother on the sons or the daughters. If you look at the positions of the Democratic party and the Republican party in the past you will find that both have failings. The object is to learn from them, not to wag one's finger in an effort to make a point that is irrelevant.
pr, funny you mention slavery. If there were an election tomorrow and one of the issues on the ballot made slavery legal, what do you think would happen? You know what would happen. The majority of people would own slaves. That doesn't make it right. The republicans especially Romney want to legalize slavery. Romney has no clue what the average American goes through. He has no idea that if he breaks the middle class, he will be not only breaking himself and his kind but he will take down the world economy as well (like Bush did). If you read anything (which I doubt) you would know how the International community feels about republicans. They can see the damage the republicans have done. The question is WHY CAN'T YOU?
Forget his "roots" - it's his religion we should be afraid of. Mormons have "stange" views on a lot of things. I know this personally, unfortunately.
How do you know this personally? Fear of Mormonism, as you have, is usually bred from a lack of understanding. I'm Mormon and I'm proud to have so-called "strange" views on a lot of things like premarital sex, drinking, swearing, modesty, etc. No one I know, however, thinks that I am a "strange" person, even though they may not agree with my beliefs. I am more than happy to discuss any of my "strange" views with anyone on here.
Me too, mt.
Me too.
What do you think you know?
Mormons stick their noses into your bedroom. I'm surprised they don't make the girls get their kootchies checked.
Baptisms for the dead are also a strange Mormon cult behavior. Forcing religion on people after death. Did you know they baptized Hitler and Anne Frank?
Be afraid of his religion? Just like we were so afraid of Obama's Muslim roots, his own words denigrating whites and Christians (in his books!) - before he somewhere became one and joined the likes of Rev. White's anti-American racist church? Give me a break! We still don't know whether Obama is a closet Muslim or just a slacker Christian that can't get off the golf course to go to church. And the Birth Certificate thing? Still no original and many, many reasons to question the authenticity of the "copy" that finally emerged... Sorry, not that gullible! Amazing that he persists in sealing all records pertaining to his childhood, schools, educational records, passports, and that inexplainable CT Social Security #! Only one reason - much to hide! I predict it will all come out eventually - after he's out of the presidency and so much damage has been done to this country we may never recover from it in our lifetime. I'm absolutely amazed at how the "unifier" has only managed to polarize this wonderful country of ours more than any other president, and flabbergasted that he still has a following of "believers" in the HOPE & CHANGE thing! For that reason - ANYBODY but Obama would be a better leader!!!
Obama is a muslim like I'm a Mormon. NOT!!!
I pretended to like Mormonism to make my parents happy. Same thing for Obama.
The things you do for your parents.
Obama 2012, ARE YOU IN-SANE?
Yes, crazy like a fox!!
Really don't understand why you think Obama is not a good choice! Look at what he inherited from good ole George Bush. I believe it is well known that Mr. Bush was one of our worst President's we have had. He left this nation the largest debt in the history of these U.S. The Iraq was totally wrong!! Did you know that Mr. Bush spent approx. $14 million to convince the citizens of this nation that the war with Iraq was the right thing to do. If I hear you correctly, you support the Republicans because they are attempting to "tear apart" the middle class of citizens, you support the large corporations as they receive all sorts of tax breaks, and also, you must support the idea of not taxing the wealthy in this nation of ours. Oh yes, the Republicans are out to get rid of "collective bargaining!" We are in this economic mess because of our so called Republican friends. Another thing, Republicans in Congress sure have been big on "collaboration", not!! If its your desire for this nation of ours to go backwards, to deregulation, taxing the lower classes of folks, destroy our environment in the name of improving our jobs available, etc. Lord help us all if your thinking is similar to other folks in the U.S.A.!!!!!!!
Thanks for the report. Now I KNOW I do NOT want him for President.
A percentage of the population thought the POTUS was part of the Taliban or some crazy crap, and believed he was going to let them take over this country. That was just gossip and prop.
What do you think will happen if a guy with a Mexican family - for real - will do regarding foreign relations with Mexico if he gets elected as POTUS?
just a thought for you repub's out there once the 0.01% finish fleecing the lower class and shred the middle class what makes you think that they will not come after your money and rights???
"candidate's heritage south of border"? Implying he's Mexican?
He may have some "Mexican Heritage", but that "heritage" is far from traditional.
Persons with true Mexican heritage should be grossly offended if Romney thinks that his heritage is anything similar to theirs.
"Yes we can", Break the bank
Yeah, greg. You and your warmongering republicans.
How dare you blame Obama? I was there, I saw it. I was paying attention and did not have my head up Fux News' butt. You can't fool me.
by the way, it wasn't me that collapsed you.
It's bad enough we have a muslim in the white house now. We sure as hell don't need mormon.
All religions are equally crazy.
even worse - a mexican mormon
Um He is a Protestant. Actually, he really is not all that keen on going to church as a lot of Americans do the same thing on Sunday. Watch football & forget going to church.
dmax, Obama is not a muslim, Romney not an extremist mormon. You however are a fanatic extremist we need to be afraid of.
dmax-you guys can't have it both ways; either President Obama went to Rev. Walker's church (Christian) or he's Muslim. After all the rightwing crap about Rev. Walker and Obama being that church for many years, he obviously isn't a Muslim.
Hey pal, how about getting your facts right! President Obama is not a Muslim!!!
Hmmmmmm, wondering if you don't like the fact he is black!!!! People like you
don't appreciate this great nation of ours. How about going to another country where you might be much happier!!!
Anybody but Obama would be a better choice!!! I don't care if he's Muslim, Mormon, Quaker or Athiest! We just need a real leader!
@just me
We have a real leader but even he can not stop the obstructionist Tea Party congress from trying to block Obama's attempt at recovery.
Have you been in a coma long?
hhhmmm if he was a Muslim wouldn't we have noticed the prayer 5 times a day to the east and the not eating ham nor shellfish or the 20 other rules a muslin must adhere to
How come Mormons can raise tens of millions of dollars to crush same-sex marriage and do nothing to stop tens of thousands of corrupt polygamists in their own backyard? I hope Romney wins the nomination and the secret Curtain of Zion comes down for all to see. It only took Texas a few years to indict and convict twelve FLDS pedophiles from Utah who moved to Eldorado to build the YFZ Ranch, including Warren Jeffs, yet powerful Mormon legislatures and law enforcement in Utah and Arizona refuse to lift a finger to stop polygamy abuse and corruption. The incompetence of powerful Mormon legislatures and law enforcement has gotten so bad that recently judge Lindberg ordered Utah's Attorney General Mark Shurtleff (a Mormon) to pay nearly 5 million of debt for mismanaging the trust for corrupt FLDS polygamists. I hope the press jumps all over the polygamy crimes and scandals Mormons have been desperately covering up for nearly a century. I watched the documentary film Banking On Heaven and would never vote for a Mormon. Romney and his powerful Mormon friends have sand in their eyes!
Someone isn't taking their meds.
I said it before...
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes in "obeying, sustaining, and honoring the law" (Articles of Faith: 12). They were never a part of us, despite what "Big Love" and other such tabloids may claim.
I said it before
Your churches founder was a sicko con artist polygamist. His principles are ones you claim as your own. You swear you believe him when your bear your testimony.
You can not argue your way out of this.
"Yes we can" Turn several stable Arab nations govts over to the Islamic brotherhood of terrorists.
Stable and Arab cannot exist in the same sentence without a negative modifier, such as "UNstable Arab states" or "Stability not present in Arab states".
"Yes, we can" take off our blinders as see the middle east as the festering sphincter of the world that it really is.
"Yes, we can" make up witty catch-phrases as if we were comedians.
"Yes, we can" not quit our day jobs and leave the comedy to actually funny people.
Indigo-Rage: Look at this list of Arab nations, which are stable: Kuwait. UAE. Oman. Qatar.
Reagan supported and then left Afghanistan to the Taliban.
Iran? see Nixon, Shah.
Iraq was our ally, and then with the invasion of Kuwait, our enemy. Bush II had to go and "finish" the job, right down to the "mission accomplished" celebration idiocy, and left it a mess for the next president.
ElkMeadow::: Well, you can say that GWBush (aka Shrub) actually DID accomplish the mission he celebrated that day. The REAL pilot landed the jet on the deck of the carrier, and Shrub got out of the jet, got down on the deck and DIDN'T FALL ON HIS FACE. Therefore he DID accomplish his mission-- he stayed on his feet.
@Elk:
From the US State Department:
United Arab Emerites: "On several occasions in past years, small groups of expatriate recreational boaters were detained by the Iranian Coast Guard for alleged violation of Iranian territorial waters while fishing near the island of Abu Musa, approximately 20 miles from Dubai. The UAE and Iran have had a long-standing dispute concerning jurisdiction of Abu Musa. Fishing or sailing in these waters may result in seizure of vessels and detention of passengers and crew in Iran. Obtaining consular assistance in Iran is difficult and can only be done through the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, which acts as a Protecting Power, providing limited U.S. consular services."
Kuwait:
"U.S.citizens in Kuwait should exercise a high level of security awareness. The Department of State remains concerned about the possibility of further terrorist actions against U.S. citizens and interests abroad, specifically in the Middle East, including the Persian Gulf and Arabian Peninsula. U.S.citizens considering travel to Kuwait should review the Worldwide Caution."
Oman:
"Spontaneous and/or planned public demonstrations take place throughout the country from time to time in response to world events or local developments. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can escalate into violence. U.S. citizens should remain attuned to readily available English and/or Arabic-language media outlets and avoid public demonstrations."
Qatar:
"Increased security at official facilities has led terrorists and their sympathizers to seek softer, less fortified targets. Other locations of potential concern include any venue where U.S. citizens and other foreigners are known to congregate in large numbers such as public assemblies, sporting events, restaurants, residential areas, clubs, places of worship, schools, hotels, etc. The Government of Qatar occasionally provides security for such locations and events, but to varying degrees. In most instances, the Embassy cannot gauge the appropriateness of security for a given event prior to its commencement. The Embassy strongly encourages U.S. citizens to avoid large crowds and demonstrations whenever possible."
Not exactly models of stability in my book, with Oman being perhaps the most stable-like...
But then compare that list to list of Arab nations, and see which is the longer list.
so hes a mexiacan and a mormon and they left for having multiple wives, I dont think we need a cultist mormon ever as president, only a idiot would vote and support this man, he even makes obama look good
dittos
. . . and Obama makes you look not just bad but pathetic, Rush.
Your comments are extremely rude and ugly. Would you say that to a Mormon to their face? Would you spew your hatred for Mormons if you were looking at one? So, you think you are superior in every way to a Mormon? Do you think that your conversation which is full of nastiness is considered better than a Mormon who doesn't do the same thing to you? All Mormons do is ask people to allow them to worship in their own fashion and they will let you do the same. As a Latter-day Saint I also ask that you consider what you say. That speaking ill of people, calling them names, and teaching lies to others about them doesn't help the conversation at all.
limbaughger:
I think I'll follow that advise and vote for candidates solely based off of their religious beliefs.
Who really cares about who they are and what they can do to help our country?!?!
Note the sarcasm...
" All mormans do is ask people to allow thenm to worship in their own fashion and they will let you do the same". I have considered what I am about to say, I don't require your or your religions permission to worship in my own fashion. I regret that I am unable to say that to your face.
Therein lies the problem, one may not "worship in their own fashion" and be pleasing to the Lord.
Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
ellie - you know what you can do with your irrelvant bible quotes - men made them up genius - they same type of men that use them to gain power and control today - you are insane - it is my duty to inform you of that
Ellie- Yes that Sh!t "bible quotes" are insane
We should not base our vote on religion or peronal behavior, becauseBill Clinton behaved so bad havin affairs, but he was the best president in the last 100 years, just take a look at the numbers... first, he paid off 5 trillion dollars of debt and reached 0 deficit, that is the best thing ever, I really dont care if the president is married, divorced, catholic, mormon, homosexual, heterosexual, or he likes orgies, etc..... what matters is the numbers and if he is a ggod leader like Clinton,
Floridamom, yes, I would say it to a Mormon's face. And Mormons do NOT just want to be left alone to worship in their own fashion. Their involvement with Prop 8/anti-gay marriage would say otherwise. So would trying to elect a Mormon president.
People have died to protect your right to worship. You reward them by FORCING your views on morality on everyone. So no, Floridamom. I don't buy it when you say all you want is to be left alone with your beliefs.
Marinmom: You are doing the exact same thing that you accuse Mormons of doing. I have seen nothing from the Mormon contributors hear that even remotely approaches the vitriol of your words. Your words are those of a true believer (in something). I am one of those people who have fought to protect the rights of all Americans and am deeply disappointed by your use of the freedoms that i and others have shed blood to protect.
I am going to stick up for Marinmom a little. Been trying to stay out of it... BUT... I also am ex-Mormon. And yes, the church is controlling of women, controlling of tithing, promises heavenly rewards for money. They taught some pretty stupid things about blacks just a few years ago. I was even told Blacks would turn white if any actually did join the church. I watched the Grand PooPah announce on national TV in the seventies that he had a vision from the Lord that Blacks are people and can join the church. I retched from the hypocrisy and quit the church. The next summer my cousins literally kidnapped and held me against my will while trying to beat me down and into coming back "into the fold". (Pause while I hawk and spit) I have a sister that is so brainwashed I can't talk to her at all. I also have about sixty first cousins that can kiss my grits. To be fair, I have one brother that has retained his good sense and humanity against the odds. Born in the Mormon church as a child to "pioneers" isn't all sweetness and light as my Mom could tell you if she still had any willpower of her own. So I guess that the rational thing to do would be truce and back off the subject. But don't give me the old "we are mysterious so you don't know what you are talking about" snowjob. Been there... done the research.
And yes, to any face.
Already have, right before I told the elders "Don't come back around here again."
pr, you are forgetting that I was raised a Mormon.
If you fought for this country, you had better been fighting for freedom. That means freedom to believe and NOT believe. That means that I should be able to live free from what I consider to be a bunch of fictional 2000 year old folklore. THAT is what America is about. If you do not know this, you need to read more about the founding fathers.
"The Government of the United States is in no way founded on the Christian religion"
-George Washington
Get your bible out of my face.
MarinMom
I'll ask this to your face - why do you tithe to keep my gay daughter a 2nd-class citizen?
If you'd keep your sharia laws to yourself and not try to force them on everyone else through our secular law, I'd have no complaint with you. Unfortunately your church wants to control my daughter's life and deny her basic civil rights, and she's not even an effing Mormon.
Henry, I wrote you a reply but somehow it ended up on page 31.
Basically, I liked your post and had a similar story to tell.
You think? Do you think that might be one of the reasons why mormons aren't respected? Are you ignoring the names your church calls LGBT the lies they are currently telling about them and the tremendous efforts it's making (and money it's spending) to try and prevent them from having equality? The exact same thing they did with blacks not long ago. Not terribly bright, your church.
There is nothing remotely saint like about mormons. It's just another whacked out hate-mongering, self-serving, power structure that sells a brainwashed sense of belonging and "specialness" at the cost of your ability to reason things out for yourself and 10%+ of your gross salary.
notkidding, you are so right. The fact that Mormons are republicans speaks louder than anything else. It makes me know I did the right thing by leaving the church when I became an adult (like the next day).
Floridamom, you just commited a sin by saying that I am "teaching lies". There is not one damn thing I have said that is not true and you know it. You better repent.
