I was in Iraq and they hardly every eat those. KBR (formally Halliburton) feeds them lobster, prime rib, steak, salad bar, cook to order omelets etc.
I thought you said that the story you did on immigration would change the minds of people who are against allowing illegal immigrants to stay.
All I heard was that farmers who had been using illegals were loosing their crops and they couldn't find people who could do the work that the illegals were doing.
With the level of unemployment we have there should be someone who would work on the farms. But when the government continues to extend paying unemployed people, why should they want to work when they can get paid for not working.
It was ridiculous to compare the racism that existed not just in the South but all over the country in the sixties with illegal immigration. I'm surprised that you presented the statement of the Alabama governor about the US government not enforcing the law now and the state of Alabama not enforcing the law in the sixties.
Come on you've got to do better than this.
I tuned in tonight just to see what you had to say. I expected a liberal point of view and wasn't surprised.
I've seen enough.
Yes, kind of makes you think this show is bias!
I really like this new show. Thank you for the report on MRE's - as a retired Army MSG - it was great to see how others view them. Great report.
Totally disgusted by your broadcast tonight. The Penn State story: You are the monsters for convicting people without a trial and destroying lives by reporting innuendo and rumors as facts! That's the scandal!
On the immigration story, YOU are again WRONG! You imply Racism? Are you NUTS??!!! By your rational, Obama is an evil racist bigot for stopping the Canadian oil pipeline. If Democrats stop "rewarding" welfare slackers for their votes, there will be plenty of workers wanting to pick the crops.
Such bias ....I couldn't watch anymore.
I live in north central Connecticut and became familiar with MREs during the recent power outage. About the 4th day without electricity, heat, or water our town started providing everyone with the easy to use meals. Without tv or internet (but with some wine) to entertain us, reading and following the detailed instructions was fun distraction. When the steam started rising off the box containing the plastic bag I did what I think anyone would do in their 45 degree house- I shoved the whole thing down the front of my many layers of turtlenecks and sweatshirts. That meal warmed me for at least 30 minutes before I even thought about opening it up and eating it. My beef stew was okay, but I am still ticked off that my husband got M&Ms with peanuts, but mine were plain! Your recent story made me laugh about our meal again, only this time while we were warm! If I could add a photo I would post the picture of my meal with the steam billowing off it by candlelight that I took to commemorate the event.
The immigration laws have NOTHING to do with racism and should not be portrayed as such. I agree we have to do something to control the spending on the illegal immigrants - which is the governments disaster. The government gives all the freebies to the illegals - not the farmer! The farmer is giving them a job! The government also gives all the freebies to the Americans, so they will not take the jobs the farmer has to offer. I feel very bad for the farmers, as the comment about "things will turn around for them in a couple of years" is obsurd. Obviously a comment made by someone who knows absolutely NOTHING about farming or the sacrifices made by the farmer. Those farmers will be out of business in two years. It is time to MAKE our people go to work, whether they like the job or not, and whether it is a job in their "field" or not. Stop extending the unemployment - talk to some of these people - they laugh and say they are on a paid vacation. (granted not all) - we need to supplement the ones who are truly trying, and that means taking ANY job - because there are jobs available - just ask a farmer. Well ask him if you can find him - he may be working his 18 hr shift - hoping to get a couple of winks before he starts again before daybreak. The "working class" is shrinking and the "taking" class growing. Wake up America - wake up those who are supposed to be governing us. It is time for them to stop worrying so much about votes by giving away our country. It is NOT the illegals taking our jobs - it is the government going about everything backwards.
I already posted a comment - but it is not showing up - apparently somebody didn't like it. I am saying that it is not the farmers fault that the illegals are getting so many freebies - it is the government giving the "working people's" money away. The farmer is giving JOBS. The jobs would be given to the Americans too - but most won't work that hard - and why should they? The government is giving the "working people's" money to them too. The working class keeps getting smaller and the "taking" class is continually on the rise. People have to be made to work - even if it is a job that they might consider "beneath" them. Stop extending the unemployment - there are jobs out there - might not be in your field, but at least it is something. We may have to subsidize some people - but only if they are working and TRYING to support themselves. The welfare system is another story - dragging through the generations. The "give away programs you will give me your vote" attitude is destroying our country.
The comment that was said about the farmer being able to get through this in a couple of years - obviously has never worn a pair of boots!!! When that hand harvest labor is gone - that farmer will also be gone in two years. If people are so sure that the illegals are taken our jobs - then those staying home whining - get out there and take them back. The farmer puts in an 18 hour day - many days - are you up for it?? Didn't think so. When the cost of your food skyrockets - don't whine about that either. My heart goes out to those farmers who have lost their crops. Wake up America!!!!
Sorry - guess I was impatient. Didn't mean for two posts.
I didn't know where to leave a general comment about this most excellent new Rock Center program. I've been cynical that evening network news has become a brief and editorially guarded "daily highlights" format. Through no fault of the generally competent and appealing anchors, I stopped watching them in favor of the unnecessarily bland PBS NewsHour, just to get some depth. Rock Center however is a brave new bright spot on Monday evening that has teeth like 60 Minutes--and I suggest you might even consider somehow promoting it that way. Great job to Mr. Williams and the producers. Be diligent, however, to avoid speaking down to your viewers (like fourth graders the way Dateline does) or promoting a political agenda. At the same time, please be open to unsafe stories that sometimes don't have two sides but only one side, where common sense can be presented for what it is.
