PRESS RELEASE: CHELSEA CLINTON TO SHARE "MAKING A DIFFERENCE" STORIES FOR "NBC NIGHTLY NEWS" AND "ROCK CENTER WITH BRIAN WILLIAMS"
Clinton takes on special assignment adding to the “Making a Difference” Franchise
November 14, 2011 -- New York, N.Y. -- Chelsea Clinton is teaming up with "Rock Center with Brian Williams" and "NBC Nightly News" as a Special Correspondent, the network announced today. Clinton's role with the shows and the network will be to highlight stories within the "Making a Difference" franchise.
"Making a Difference" segments have a history of profiling organizations and individuals who represent the best of what works in the United States and around the world, frequently emphasizing stories about everyday people doing extraordinary things. Clinton’s dedication to public service, solution-based advocacy and focus on empowering people across the country and around the globe resonates with the purpose and content of “Making a Difference.” Her position with NBC News will still allow Clinton continue her work with the Clinton Foundation and her studies in parallel.
"Chelsea is a remarkable woman who will be a great addition to NBC News. Given her vast experiences, it's as though Chelsea has been preparing for this opportunity her entire life," said Steve Capus, President of NBC News. "We are proud she will be bringing her considerable, unique talents and dedication to NBC News."
"Our Making a Difference segments have become a signature of the broadcast. They adhere to a simple goal of highlighting the good works being done across the country and around the world," said Brian Williams, Anchor and Managing Editor of Nightly News and Rock Center. "Chelsea Clinton has led a remarkable life. She possesses an uncommon understanding of humanity -- on city streets, across this country and around the globe. We are so excited she's joining us to tell the stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things."
“People who imagine and implement solutions to challenges in their own lives, in their communities, in our country and in our world have always inspired me,” said Clinton. “I hope telling stories through “Making a Difference” – as in my academic work and non-profit work – will help me to live my grandmother’s adage of “Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you, ” Clinton continued. “I have long been impressed that Brian and his team at NBC place consistent importance on sharing stories of empowerment that in turn, help empower other people and families. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this tradition.”

Service to one's community... A+. Thank you Chelsea
Guess her years in the hedge fund business didn't work out for her. But then she still has the investment banker husband and his Goldman ties..always keep a foot in the door...
I'm sure everyone is eternally grateful to you, and all the others like you, for being unable to resist playing sleazeball, the rules of which forbid any display of human decency and which scoring an innuendo is the underlying spirit of the game.
Pointing out Chelsea's Hedge Fund and Banking ties are off limits? Isn't this a story about Chelsea Clinton and professional accolades. Shouldn't we consider her qualifications to rise to this position? If we were shooting outside the bulls-eye, I suppose one could ask why she is not hyphenating or using her married name....could be trouble in paradise or she has just gone completely European. Now that remark could be over the edge were it not for the fact that as a correspondent she is now, in her own right, a public figure....Wonder how Bill and Hillary will adjust to that fact?
I would like to know how many real reporters tried to get that gig. Like I said before, its who you know...
Trust fund baby working for the ministry of truth ? The end of journalism .....how sad for us.
Hey, look. It's a Democrat. Big surprise. Nice credentials too.
Drives me nuts when people put someone down simply because they're from a well connected family. Your comments simply show your ignorant bigotry. I can think of several "trust fund" kids who have made great reporters. Anderson Cooper and Maria Shriver just to name two.
And if you're wondering how many 'real reporters' tried to get the gig, then you haven't seen these features as there are plenty of reports who provide segments to "Making a Difference". And obviously you didn't read this article about Chelsea's qualifications to add to that reporting pool. I'd rather hear about people making a difference from someone who is already working with an organization that IS trying to make a difference. That perspective brings more information and insight to the stories than a simple reporter who runs around gathering 'facts'. Not to mention her unique experience and exposure to the world through her travels with her parents. So how could anyone denounce this partnership.
I say go for it Chelsea. I'm looking forward to seeing your insight and perspectives on the stories you bring to NBC.
But how fair is it that students of journalism who worked hard, did the interviews and the stories, never get a shot at such an opportunity. Nepotism, indeed. Same applies to Jenna Bush. It goes to show how things are run in the news business. It is all about who you know. Very unfair.
I think Chelsea will give Jenna Bush a run for her money. Jenna has tried to be a contributor on "Today" but does not have a good delivery. She's the one with connections.
If not Chelsea, it would be someone else like her who does not worry about stretching their $ to make it through the week.
Why not a more mature, qualified woman or man who needs a job. Now that would really be something nice for the community.
You got it. I agree with you 100%. Many of these shows also have people they know as guests who have written books and want to advertise their newly published books. I call it book payola!!!!
If Costos actually interviews Sandusky tonight....your broadcast will be on mute in my house.... that is absolutely unacceptable and a black eye for your show!!!
Totally not fair, this nepotism, especially as there are many journalism degree grads out there that did the time and deserve such opportunities.
it offends me that you villify the governor of Alabama for passing a law against illegal immigration. The federal government made it illegal to hire an undocumented worker about 25 years ago and won't enforce the existing laws. When a state has to enforce the laws on the books they shouldn't be demonized. The couple on the show that had the bakery have lived here for over 10 years and still can't speak english for the show. That shows they have no intent to adapt and adjust and accept the american way of life.....
"Illeagal Aliens" Need more be said. The family that owned the bakery in the U.S. have learned how to make a living and still only speak Spanish, shame on them. Press one for English Period!!!!!
Aw Gaahh Leee Rock: Another black eye for Alabama. I sure do wish ya'll would have included some of those there financial numbers about illegal residents using state resources, fed resources, like medical care, assistance, etc. ya know, along with those numbers ya'll gave out about food waste for farmers and food pricing goin' up in the future.....
Not a racist, just a 45+ year old college-educated, tax paying, law abiding citizen here in Central Alabama. Sweet Home Alabama
"
How dare your,
How dare you write a piece about illagal immigration, and to inferrer that Alabama is taking negative ground! There is too much happening in this country to isolate this great state in protecting its citizens against further decay! It is about time these money hungry politicians make a stand for common people. You are the worst in news broadcasting to create this negative propaganda against this misjustice of illegal immigration!
Brain Williams, You must think we are all stupid out here, You SUCK!!!!!!!!
Oh please... anyone but Chelsea. How in the world could she possibly relate to the 'common' man/woman?
That piece that Kate Snow did on the illegals in Alabama was so amateurish. Her delivery, facial expressions and tones made for a very slanted article even bordering on low budget propaganda. This was the first time my wife and I watched your show and we were pretty disgusted with this low level journalism. I have a political science degree from a predominately hispanic university(UTEP)and my wife is an immigrant from mainland China. We followed the letter of the law, paid our dues, dealt with the bureaucracy, and waited our turn to be together here legally. As far as the issue about the illegals we view it much more objectively. As far as your news venture please be more professional and refrain from insulting your viewers.
Being liberal, my heart wants to just give general amnesty to all illegals, of course excepting criminals. But I also know there is more to the story and I wish news stories would include some of the real concerns border and deep Southern states have with fetterless illegal immigration. Homes near the border are regularly robbed by illegals and worse. But what is happening just across the border from them in Mexico is breathtakingly horrific and the real fears that it will spill over into the US -- where they are -- is something that needs to be included in our reporting of the issue. Indeed, racism is part of every debate in this country and should be included. So are unjustified and irrational fears. But when there are real fears to be considered, we must face them as well so we find the right solutions. They are ignored at all our peril.
I don't ever watch NBC or MSNBC because of their leftist, liberal biased views and comments, but heard on a couple of local talk shows about Chelsea Clinton being hired by NBC. How many phone calls did daddy have to make to get Chelsea the job with NBC? Not many, I'm sure. Also many listeners of the local talk shows have guessed the reason for the "training" at NBC. If Chelsea wants to run for office, family doesn't want her to end up like Caroline Kennedy when she was going to run for the open senator seat in New York. All Caroline could say was "you know". Don't want that to happen to Chelsea, who is not qualified to do the commentator job or political office, do you? Maybe the voters will vote more intelligently in the future and vote for someone for their own qualifications and experience and not what family they are in---this goes for Jenna Bush too, who couldn't take the rigors of teaching and is now working for guess who!!!!!!! By the way, maybe that is NBC's token Republican employee.
I would love to be interviewed by Chelsea and enjoy some non-oral sex meetings with her. XOXO
Yet another reason I love NBC!!
I thank you for bringing in Chelsea Clinton to host "Making a Difference."
She is a wonderful, educated woman that will do just fine.
Can't wait to see the first episode.
