I remember Richard Engel from a rooftop in Baghdad interacting shakily with Peter Jennings as the first bombs fell, oh so many years ago now. I have cherished watching his growth as a journalist and will watch anything which gives him space to do what he does best. Thank you.....
I enjoyed this peace while at the same time having the feeling that it didn't really enlighten the viewers about the why what is happening in Europe is so important to Americans; about how Europe, with a common currency, is not really politically integrated and the affects this has on its ability to cope with stress; about the relationships that exist between American and European Financial institutions, for example the recent failure of 'MF Capital' due to its massive investments in European Sovereign Bonds. These are difficult concepts so perhaps there could be a weekly, bi-weekly, etc follow on to tonight's show that presents these types of issues gradually over time. Perhaps there could be monthly topics that are dealt with over a four week period that allow the viewers to gradually absorb the lessons being presented.
I listened to your piece with interest. You had on a guest who wrote several books or movies or whatever. You asked him what the problem is with our economy and how it got to be that way. He gave the answer that big banks, too big to fail, etc. etc...which is simply a symptom of the root cause--government spending. Governments spend way too much money, and they've relied on these "too big to fail" banks to buy their bonds. This is the cause of all of our problems here...and around the world. Please make sure that your guests are experts in the field and know what they're talking about, rather than writers from Berkeley dabbling in economics.
This guy is a bias liberal media jerk! wouldn't watch anything on psmnbc!
Could NBC and MSNBC use someone else besides Richard Engel to report on foreign news??
